Is it true swollen and sore feet and ankles can be a symptom of hypothyroidism?

Is it true swollen and sore feet and ankles can be a symptom of hypothyroidism?

VERY POSSIBLY: As there are different types of ankle and foot swelling, you should be examined and evaluated by a doctor. Although heart disease must be first ruled out, your symptoms could well be caused by an underactive thyroid gland. If you have other symptoms of an underactive thyroid, even if blood tests are "normal", you should discuss a trial of thyroid medication with your doctor. ...Read more

Why does hypothyroidism cause my feet to be cold sometimes despite wearing socks and shoes?

Why does hypothyroidism cause my feet to be cold sometimes despite wearing socks and shoes?

Classic hypothyroid: One of the most common symptoms of hypothyroidism (there are MANY) is cold hands and feet. The thyroid controls your metabolism and body temperature. Although you are taking levothyroxine, you are most likely not taking enough. I preferentially use Armour dessicated thyroid--a combination of T2, T3, (liothyronine) T4, rather than levothyroxine, which is T4. Thyroid blood tests are usually a waste of blood. ...Read more
