Synthroid (thyroxine) or Armour Thyroid for hypothyriodism?

Synthroid (thyroxine) or Armour Thyroid for hypothyriodism?

Levothyroxine.: Levothyroxine, generic form of synthroid, has many advantages over armour thyroid. The armour product has significant batch to batch variation and has T3 (liothyronine) in it. Since the T3 (liothyronine) portion of armour has a very quick onset and short duration, it can wreak havoc with the ability to effectively treat hypothyroidism. Until there is a long-acting form of T3 (liothyronine) available, stick to levothyroxine. ...Read more

Armour vs thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) for thyriod medicine?

Armour vs thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) for thyriod medicine?

Not the best: All of the major professional societies for thyroid specialists, the endocrine society, the american thyroid association, and the american association of clinical endocrinologists have issued formal statements indicating that levothyroxine is the best choice for most patients. Both armour and thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) provide too much T3 relative to t4, making it very difficult to keep tsh, free T4 & T3 normal. ...Read more

Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) effect on weight loss?

Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) effect on weight loss?

Ideally, none: Thyroid hormone in any form is not a weight loss product. Many people, especially those with weight problems to begin with, find that taking too much thyroid hormone can lead to weight gain just as easily as taking too little thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone should be adjusted to match what the body would make if the thyroid were working normally., and should be weight-neutral. ...Read more

Why could I swing back & forth from hypothyroid and hyperthyroid (thyrotoxicosis)? Neg. antibodies for Hashi's and Graves'. Have multinodular goiter.

Thyroid: It often depends on when you take your medicine. I think it best to take thyroid medicine at bedtime. Give it a bit of time and your levels should be stable. Yes, they could be stable and high or stable and low. Once you have settled on that please see your doctor. ...Read more

Would a doctor put me on both tapazole and Synthroid (thyroxine) for graves disease?

Would a doctor put me on both tapazole and Synthroid (thyroxine) for graves disease?

Complete blockade: Some people don't tolerate withdrawal of tapazole as their thyroid can relapse and become hyperthyroid again. By adding synthroid (thyroxine) to the treatment, tapazole can do its job blocking the thyroid and synthroid (thyroxine) will keep a patient from becoming hypothyroid on tapazole treatment. ...Read more

On 50 mcg of Synthroid (thyroxine) for mild hypothyroidism. I also have high blood press and tachycardia. In on topeol for. Could Synthroid (thyroxine) cause cardiac effects?

On 50 mcg of Synthroid (thyroxine) for mild hypothyroidism. I also have high blood press and tachycardia. In on topeol for. Could Synthroid (thyroxine) cause cardiac effects?

Unlikely: Synthroid (thyroxine) can cause high blood pressure and tachycardia if the dose is too high. The only way to prove this is to check your thyroid level. If the level is normal, i would look for another etiology for the symptoms above. Synthroid (thyroxine) 50 mcg is a very low dose and is unlikely to be the cause for your symptoms. See your doc to get your labs check. Good luck. ...Read more

Can hypothyroid symptoms be fast heart rate and insomnia? Will adding cytomel to Synthroid (thyroxine) help?

Maybe hyperthyroid: Hyperthyroidism (too much circulating thyroid hormone) will often produce rapid heart rate and insomnia - along with other symptoms like diarrhea, weight loss, and jitteriness. Low thyroid may cause weight gain, sluggishness, coarse/dry skin, and constipation. Ask your care provider about your symptoms. Please do not "freelance" with Cytomel or synthroid, (thyroxine) as this may harm you! lgromko md. ...Read more
