Excessive Body Hair (Definition)

The normal amount of body hair varies widely among women. Usually, a woman will only grow fine hair (peach fuzz) on her lips, chin, chest, abdomen, or back. When women grow coarse, dark hairs in these areas, the condition is called hirsutism. This pattern of hair growth is more typical of men. All women normally produce low levels of male hormones (androgens). Unwanted hair growth (hirsutism) in women may occur when the body makes too much male hormone. In most cases, the exact cause is never identified. It tends to run in families. In general, hirsutism is a harmless condition. But many women find it bothersome, or even embarrassing. Call your doctor if: * The hair grows rapidly. * The hair growth is associated with male features such as acne, deepening voice, increased muscle mass, and decreased breast size. * You are concerned that medication may be ...Read more

How can I feel confident as a woman with excess body hair?

What do you ask?: Please forgive my frankness. The world is not fair, and cosmetic defects are both personal and professional liabilities. In many (most?) cultures, a masculine pattern of body hair on a woman is a strong negative. It's cruel to tell a person to "be confident" rather than deal with the situation. See about electrolysis or laser Rx. These should be cheap and easily available. ...Read more

Expert opinions? Is there any cure to reduce excess body hair?

Your optinos: Trusting you're a male naturally "blessed" with a lot of body hair. Most other men are at least a little bit jealous, and many hairy guys love it, but it's your choice (and your partner's, if you've got somebody). There's a whole culture of "manscaping" with trimming and even styling of body hair. Shaving, waxing, and (if you're sure) electrolysis / lasers are all options for you. ...Read more

Please let me know if there is any way to reduce excess body hair?

What do you want?: If you're a female, it's wise to have masculine-type body hair removed by electrolysis or lasers unless it's something you very much like. A man naturally "blessed" with body hair gets to choose. Many men (and many women who admire us) love it, while other folks prefer smooth. Shaving, waxing, and (if you're sure) electrolysis / lasers are all options. Best wishes. ...Read more

What hormones are responsible for excessive body hair?

What hormones are responsible for excessive body hair?

Not hormones: A man with a normal amount of testosterone will be hairy or smooth depending on his genetic background. It's the skin's ability to respond. Taking extra testosterone won't turn a smooth man hairy -- if it did, the steroid monsters at the gym would all grow extra body hair, and by and large they do not. Smooth or hairy, I hope you like who you are -- or shave / "manscape" what you don't want. ...Read more
