Should I take thyroid medication if my TSH is 4.22 and I feel sluggish and brainfog and anxiety and depression?
Yes: If you have been prescribed synthroid (thyroxine) for hypothyroidism (or subclinical hypothyroidism), take it. Hypothyroidism may cause you to feel depressed and an anti-depressant would be ineffective if your thyroid problem isn't addressed. A TSH of 4.22 suggests hypothyroidism, but is a borderline value and may not be full story. See your doctor for a full work-up. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have hashimotos and had been on 150mcg levothyroxine feeling great, maybe slightly hyperthyroid. Doctor said my TSH was too low and dropped me to 50mcg. I feel awful now. What should I do?
I have hypothyroidism but im tired all the time and im cold alot what can i do I have normal blood levels and take levothyroxine for it T3 (liothyronine) T4 TSH ok?
Tired and cold: It is most likely you have not been given enough thyroid medication. If you are sure that your thyroid blood levels are OK - (how long since they were last measured?) - please see your doctor to work out why you are tired and cold. Thyroid labs should be measured every 3-6 months. ...Read more
I have low energy, am overweight and am hot all the time have hypothyroidism and am taking levothyroxine 88mcg and have a TSH of 1.04?
Obesity: Your thyroid disease appears to be well treated. I would hope that your doctor's also have you on a daily vitamin d. Now getting active, eating less calories, especially less sugars and other carbohydrates may very well help you feel a bit better.... At least enough to keep making healthy choices for your daily living. ...Read more

i have nodule on thyroid. And hav symptoms of overactive thyroid
been ill for weeks...Pls can u help?
Thyroid nodule: If you're having symptoms or hyperthyroid, need to return to fp or see endocrinologist for thyroid function tests as well as thyroid ultra-sound/scan/biopsy to determine nature of nodule. If benign, there are medications to help control overactive thyroid, or if necessary, part of the gland can be removed. Docs can advise you best after tests. ...Read more

I am hypothyroid and on 150mcg/day levothyroxine. Tsh was .53 two weeks ago. I am still cold, have low bp, high heart rate, depressed, and insomnia.
Need more lab tests: Tsh does not tell the whole story. Have your doctor check free T4 and free t3 (liothyronine). Those are your actual thyroid hormone levels and might more accurately reveal whether you are on enough medication or even the right medication. Levothyroxine is T4 and needs to be converted to t3 (liothyronine), so a low free T3 (liothyronine) means that you are not converting. Low T3 (liothyronine) can cause many of the symptoms you describe. ...Read more
What do I do if my TSH levels are normal, but my free T4 is low, and I am having hypothyroid symptoms?
Central hypothyroid: Free T4 assays can sometimes be unreliable and you and your physician will be better off if you have your total T4 measured instead along with T3 (liothyronine) update to calculate what we call free thyroid index. If you have symptoms of hypothyroidism and your T4 remain level despite normal TSH then you may have a type of hypothyroidism called central hypothyroidism (your pituitary hormones should be checked). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I am heat sensitive and have been for years, it makes my heart beat fast and makes me feel tired and panicky , thyroid normal am 37 , low bp?
Sweaty?: If you're heat sensitive, tired with low bp, consider dehydration. Two major causes: sweating and not drinking enough? (if you have other fluid losses like diarrhea, vomiting, or bleeding, they would also contribute to your symptoms). Panicky does not fit- you may have two distinct issues. Uncontrolled diabetes, the rare entity, diabetes insipidus, and some drugs could contribute. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Been taking Synthroid (thyroxine) 1mg for 4 wks and ive recently had anxiety and depression. was taking it to make thyroid smaller, even tho thyroid was normal?
Wrong dose: Hi. That dose is incorrect. It may be 0.1 mg, but they don't make a "1 mg" Synthroid. The biggest single pill they make is 0.3 mg, and that's generally a HUGE dose. Furthermore, taking Synthroid per se will not shrink a goiter, although a goiter may get smaller over time while taking Synthroid. You may be becoming iatrogenically hyperthyroid. (For other readers, Synthroid = levothyroxine) ...Read more

Tsh=2.11/t3 uptake=30.3/free t3=3.3/thyroxine=9.2/triiodothyronine=102.4/ everything is normal. Why do I still feel extremely tired and irritable?
Both oh my thyroids are enlarged my TSH level was 1.8 and free T4 was 1.4 so why am i always tired, no energy, sweats, and have gained weight ?
Goiter: It sounds like you have a goiter, but thyroid levels are normal. Unfortunately, most people who feel tired, with no energy, and gain weight do not have a thyroid problem. There are many other causes for those symptoms. If they persist, you need to see your doctor for evaluation. Taking thyroid hormone will not help you. ...Read more

Hashimoto's: Sounds like you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease. The body attacks it's own thyroid resulting in high thryoid levels initially and low thyroid levels once the the thyroid is "burned out." Sounds like you are currently Euthyroid (in the middle range and ok) on medicine. Your situation and other meds are somewhat complex and might be best addressed with a call-in. ...Read more
