Idiopathic means: Idiopathic in medicine means that there is no discoverable cause for you developing deficiency of the hormones from the pituitary gland that stimulate the gonads, they are called lh and fsh. Common: Hi. Idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is the most common form of hypogonadism diagnosed in adult men. For reasons we can't identify (i.e., it's idiopathic), the hypothalamus and/or pituitary fail to make LH & FSH adequately (i.e., hypogonadotropic) to drive the testicles normally, and as a result, testosterone is low (i.e., hypogonadism). ...Read more
Endocrinologist: is hh commonly used as an abbreviation for hypogonadotropic hypogonadism? Was under the impression that it was.
It won't work: Clomid (clomiphene) works by taking advantage of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. If you have hypohypo then you don't have an intact working hypothalamic-pituiary-ovarian axis and the clomid (clomiphene) won't work. clomid (clomiphene) works by tricking the brain that there is low estrogen levels, but if you have HPO axis issues you have low estrogen levels. So clomid (clomiphene) can't work since the levels are already low. ...Read more

Yes: If you truly have hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (low lh/fsh ; low testosterone), depending on the cause there are treatments that can induce increased sperm production such as pulsatile luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (lhrh) via a pump or, more commonly, with a schedule of injections of human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) and follicle-stimulating hormone (fsh). ...Read more
Common for young male with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism/prolactinoma to still have low t after cabergoline tx. (therefore needing supplemental t)?
Dx with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism/ prolactinoma. Can hh diagnosis be made based solely on low t or must fsh/lh levels also be measured to make the dx?
