A good Dx idea.: It was wise to have a physical exam to check for organ damage. It's good there is nothing bad yet. Treating your anxiety (therapy w/ or w/o drugs) and the reflux is a good idea to prevent organ damage from the excess acid, etc. So, find a CBT therapist you like who can help and it should all be good. Gastritis/ulcer: increased acidity can irritate the gastric lining and cause inflammation and pain that is calmed by food. I recommend avoiding high acid foods(citrus, tomato juice,coffee, alcohol ),avoid smoking, eat small portions more often, and try OTC Prilosec or Nexium (esomeprazole). Maybe GERD: This could be gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd) which results from a loose lower esophageal sphincter and/or overproduction of acid. Also it could be the pancreas, peptic ulcer, gallstones, or hiatal hernia ( the top of the stomach protrudes into the esophagus). Your doctor will be able to to determine what the cause is.
