Is it normal that I can feel a ~8mm thick suture line on the back right side of my skull, but only a much smaller one on the left?

Suture lines: You really shouldn't be able to feel any of the "suture lines" on your skull through your scalp. My guess is you are probably feeling something else. If you are having symptoms related to it, you could get an examination, but otherwise you are probably feeling a variant of normal anatomy. ...Read more

20 month old son has indent in back of skull. Otherwise normal, behaviorally and physically. Is this indentation serious? Should we treat it?

Pain in the center of the back of my head. Feel like my skull is parted. And there is an unstoppable itch and now it hurts. Why is this happening?

? neuralgia: This could be due to an irritable superficial nerve in your scalp which usually resolves on its own. However if there is associated redness and tenderness, then an inflammation of the scalp is suggested. It is doubtful that there is an intracranial cause for your symptoms. Have your physician examine you and he/she will order any appropriate tests or imaging if it's felt advisable or treat thescalp ...Read more

What????: 2 inches DEEP? So you've discovered the Cranial Grand Canyon? (CGC) Hmmm...if that is brand new and you haven't recently been clogged by something such as a raging Clydesdale who was mad you wouldn't let him watch the Budweiser commercial during the Super Bowl then, I would like to see this indent on webcam. I have an access on my neck it's been there a week... last night a huge knot popped up on the back of my skull and it hurts badly.

Abscess? And pain?: I think that is what you meant to write here. This is a something that needs an in person evaluation right away if you have severe pain and if it is more than a small, superficial skin issue like a bigger pimple for example. Without looking at it, I have to be cautious. If you use injection drugs of any kind or are diabetic/have immune issues, get seen in the emergency room or urgent care now. ...Read more

If the base of his skull gets pressed (where spine meets skull), even lightly, my husband gets a headache for a few hours. Should we be worried?

If the base of his skull gets pressed (where spine meets skull), even lightly, my husband gets a headache for a few hours. Should we be worried?

Probably not: In the absence of previous trauma there's little with which to be concerned. Just to each side of the skull base are small nerve branches (one on each side) that can be a chronic source of headaches fir some people. This is termed occipital neuralgia. Obviously he has a very sensitive, irritable nerve (s). I'd just abide by 'consensus judgement' and avoid it. Cheers. ...Read more

I have a large dent on the back of my skull and about a month ago I started getting bad headaches were I couldn't get out of bed. Need answers?

Need an exam: I don't suspect that the dent is causing the headache but it would be advisable to have a physician exam that in person.
As for the headache, it it's fairly consistent and new then again, a consultation with a physician is recommended because there are a broad range of causes for headaches such as tension headache, sinus headaches, migraines, neuropathies, muscle spasms and spinal issues. ...Read more

3 questions: Tolerance means the meds don't work as well and you require MORE of them for the same effect. (with dangerous side effects)

Hypersensitivity could mean the meds work TOO well and a little bit has a strong effect.

Why would you see a chiro? Especially one that causes your pain to worsen? If having pain that doesn't get better in a day or so see a real doctor for evaluation and recomend. ...Read more

Occipital neuritis: The back of your head is innervated and controlled by the occipital nerves as pictured here. It has been nearly 4 yrs now, it is time to consult doc to find out what is causing your trouble. Good luck. ...Read more
