You would be sleepy: Hydroxyzine HCl when marketed as Atarax was studied in patients with chronic urticaria at gradually increasing doses up to 100 mg every 6 hours. I've used it at single night doses of 400 mg in severe urticaria. Hydroxyzine Pamoate (Vistaril) was used as a mild antidepressant at higher doses. OK: It is ok, but it might not be completely effective. Hydroxyzine and Ativan (lorazepam) work through different mechanisms of action. Hydroxyzine is a potent antihistamine, which leads to sedation and decreased anxiety. Ativan (lorazepam) works through the GABA system (more like alcohol). Withdrawal from Ativan (lorazepam) will be mitigated to some extent, but not completely by using hydroxyzine. In time, should be ok. ...Read more
