Been prescribed citalopram (depression), hydroxyzine (insomnia) is 20mg citalopram + 75mg hydroxzine safe? Doctor said it should be okay. Thanks.
It's safe, but...: ..To me it depends how it's prescribed. I would want you to start the Hydroxyzine at a lower dose, like 25mg and first see if that dose will help you sleep. If it doesn't, then increase in steps to 50, and then to 75, if necessary. With citalopram, I would want you to start with 10mg for at least 4 to 5 days, if not more, to make sure you tolerate it before increasing to 20 mg. ...Read more

I suffer insomnia when I'm on a business trip. I sometimes take xanax for anxiety (0.5g 2x/day). Is it ok to take hydroxyzine 25mg together too?
Yes, but would also: Look into non=pharmacological management of both anxiety and insomnia. Travel may be difficult, particularly if it covers many time zones, but there are behavioral ways to treat jet lag. Antihistamines are generally safe for both occasiona insomnia or anxiety, but taken long-term they interfere with normal sleep rhythms, including REM sleep. Relaxation techniques such as guided imagery may help. ...Read more
