Can I safely use diluted hydrogen peroxide as mouthwash indefinitely? My dentist recommended it to me for chronic halitosis & oral thrush.

Can I safely use diluted hydrogen peroxide as mouthwash indefinitely? My dentist recommended it to me for chronic halitosis & oral thrush.

Halitosis: Indefinitely is a long time, and the H2O2 may not be treating the cause. Bad breath can be caused by many different factors, including sinus infections, periodontal problems, smoking, cavities, acid reflux, and your diet. Address all of these possibilities with your dentist and physician, and I'm confident that your problem will at least be minimized, and hopefully eradicated. ...Read more

Regardless of proper brushing/ flossing 2 x's a day there is always so much bacteria in mouth. What mouthwash may be best. Hydrogen peroxide?

Bacteria: There will always be bacteria in your mouth regardless of brushing flossing or mouthwashes. The trick is to keep them from sticking and colonizing your tooth and root surfaces. It's the plaque and subsequent calculus that does the damage. Focus your attention on keeping the teeth as clean as possible and have professional cleanings as needed to keep your teeth spotless. ...Read more

Have large dry socket, getting repacked by dentist every other day. What kind of mouth wash can I use if any? Sal water? Hydrogen peroxide ok?

Avoid disturbance: The goal in treating a true dry socket is to manage infection and pain while the body slowly heals. I bit my tongue 3 weeks ago and sustained a cut that has not healed and does not even show a sign of healing. What can I do? I use listerine mouth wash and/or hydrogen peroxide..

See your dentist!: Tongues normally heal quickly. 3 weeks is way to long to consider continuing to treat yourself. I would not use the listerine as this is probably irritating the area. Hydrogen peroxide can leave you vulnerable to fungal infection in the mouth as well. I strongly recommend letting a dentist look at your tongue and give you the proper treatment. ...Read more
