I have a kidney infection and the doctor just switched me from tylenol (acetaminophen) with codine to hydrocodone. Which medication is stronger?
Hydrocodone: Is more potent, in that 7.5 mg of hydrocodone is the equivalent of 30 mg of codeine. More importantly, hydrocodone is better absorbed, gets into the brain faster, so it provides more pain relief sooner, and has fewer side effects (itching, flushing, nausea, hives, diarrhea) than codeine. ...Read more

I took the cough medication Hycodan (hydrocodone) at around 7pm. Its 10:30pm, would it be ok to take nyquil?
Cough control: Hycodan (hydrocodone) can give excellent relief of cough. Unfortunately, if you are coughing again a lot after 3-4 hours, I would say the Hycodan (hydrocodone) levels are not sufficient to relieve the cough by itself. Hopefully, taking the NyQuil at that point will hopefully give you additive benefit. I would not typically take both meds together. If your cough is increasing/getting worse, see your doctor. ...Read more

Yes: Should be ok at normal doses of hydrocodone (5-15 mg per dose, 3-4 times a day). At VERY high doses (more than 120 mg per day), there is a slight risk of heart arrhythmia along with things like ephedrine (ephedrine sulfate) or psuedoephedrine (ephedrine sulfate) due to an additive effect. ...Read more
All of them will: The fda has just required all companies making combination products to stop putting any more than 325 mg of tylenol (acetaminophen) into these products. In addition, a single-drug pill with extended release hydrocodone was approved by the fda, but is not on the market. It does not have a formulation that deters abuse, and many of us are very concerned about a product with lots of hydrocodone (possibly 30 mg). ...Read more

Treat symptoms: Depends on how many vicodin- if mild, treat it like a mild flu - tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen for pain, pepto bismol can help diarrhea and stomach cramping, sedating antihistamines (like benadryl) can help sleep. I have severe migraines &doctor has try me on several medication &add ons but ER gave me hydrocodone for other reason had extra it help discuss w doc?
Yes, please discuss: In general, opioids (and even tylenol, (acetaminophen) aspirin and NSAIDs) are not the preferred drugs for migraine, because they can lead to rebound headache, and ultimately, when taken often enough, can lead to chronic daily headache instead of episodic migraine. Preventive medications (beta blockers, caclium channel blockers, topirimate) and migraine-specific drugs (Zomig etc) are preferred over opiates. ...Read more
My mother had an endoscopic examination at 1:00 this afternoon. There was nothing removed for biopsy. Is it alright for her to take her usual pain medication at this time? Hydrocodone 7.5
Pain medication: Most endoscopies are done under IV propofol. An anesthetic that is safe and short acting. If this was used she should be able to take her pain medication. However, if other longer acting sedatives, such as Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) and versed, were used you may have to be more careful, especially late in the evening. Ultimately if she has taken pain medication for a while she should be ok. Use good judgement. ...Read more

Can pain medications such as hydrocodone/nsaids and/or multi vitamins cause foamy bubbly urine. I have it about 80% of the time.
Not that I know of: Foamy or bubbly urine is not abnormal, and depends to some extent on the force of your stream and distance to the toilet water. There is some association with higher urine protein levels and more foamy urine, so it may be worthwhile to just have a urinalysis looking for protein. If you are diabetic or hypertensive, might ask your doctor to check urine microglobulin. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. ...Read more
