Nausea, drowsiness: Hycodan (hydrocodone) contains a narcotic that when ingested could give a "high", but it could also make people feel sick, nauseated, faint, groggy, have shallow breathing, get constipated. Used over a long period of time, people get dependent, meaning they get withdrawal symptoms when stopping. It's a medicine to be used with caution. ...Read more
I was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, the doctor prescribed my hycodan (hydrocodone) syrup. I'm a bit apprehensive since I'm allergic to codeine.?
Codeine allergy: If allergy manifests with nausea, vomiting, headaches, belly pain, confusion, itching without redness or edema, this is not a true allergy but side effects. If it is redness, breathing problems, swelling of the tongue, etc. Than it is true allergy. Codeine cross reacts with hycodan (hydrocodone). ...Read more

You ask this online?: If you were going to die, you almost certainly would have already. If you were taking it with suicidal intent, you need to get help now. If you were taking it because you are abusing hydrocodone, it depends on your level of tolerance. Many people who use these drugs regularly can use 35 mg (the amount usually in 7 tsp) without major problem. For opiate-naive people, it would cause sedation. ...Read more

Hycodan (hydrocodone) has addition: Of homatropine, which is a anticholinergic drug used as a drying agent in people with runny noses and other congestive cold symptoms. The hydrocodone in hycodan is in smaller doses that is found with usual hydrocodone being used for pain. The hydrocodone in Hycodan is there for its anti-jussive (cough) effect, not for pain. If you take too much hycodan, you get side effects from too much atropine. ...Read more
Different ingredient: Both have hydrocodone, usually in 5 mg doses, but Hycodan contains homatropine, another medication used to treat cold symptoms. In high doses, homatrophine can cause severe illness and even death. If you are planning on using Hycodan instead of hydrocodone for whatever purpose (pain or abuse), excessive amounts of Hycodan can be very, very dangerous. So don't. If not, ignore the above. ...Read more
It depends: Tussionex is sustained release. It provides a gradual amnt of hydrocodone over 12 hrs. Hycodan is dosed on a shorter interval. If you took Hycodan q 4-6 hrs you'd receive a higher quantity of hydrocodone in total. Both medications however should be used only on an as needed basis. My advise would be to be less concerned about which one is strongest and use the one that is most effective. ...Read more

An allergy med: Both contain hydrocodone, a narcotic pain medicine that happens to be a great cough suppressant. Tussionex contains chlorpheniramine, an old allergy medication that tends to be very sedating (makes you sleepy) - but also can be drying for congestion / mucus mambranes. Hycodan only adds low dose homatropine - no benefit for symptoms, it just gives bad side effects if try to exceed recomm. Dose. ...Read more

Depends: Neither is particularly effective. Recent tudies of cough medications have shown that codeine-containing cough medications work about as well as sugar pills (placebo) and other studies show hydrocodone equal to Codeine. Theoretically Hycodan (with an anticholinergic) should work better for productive coughs and tussionex (with an antihistamine) should work better if there's an allergy component. ...Read more

I took the cough medication Hycodan (hydrocodone) at around 7pm. Its 10:30pm, would it be ok to take nyquil?
Cough control: Hycodan (hydrocodone) can give excellent relief of cough. Unfortunately, if you are coughing again a lot after 3-4 hours, I would say the Hycodan (hydrocodone) levels are not sufficient to relieve the cough by itself. Hopefully, taking the NyQuil at that point will hopefully give you additive benefit. I would not typically take both meds together. If your cough is increasing/getting worse, see your doctor. ...Read more
