Discuss with your OB: You should discuss it with your OB first. When a woman skips the placebo pills the withdrawal bleeding that normally occurs during that time is "skipped" as you continue on birth control. There are some things you should know so talk to your OB/GYN who prescribed the pills first. Good luck. ...Read more

I've missed taking my Yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) (bayer) pills for 3days since monday after i've finished the 21day pack last sunday. How do I begin taking the new pack?
??pregant?: If you are already pregnant the BC pills will not help. You should call your GYN ASAP. ...Read more
Should i start the next pack of ocella (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) birth control without finishing the placebo pills if i start my period? More effective than finishing the pack?
Maybe: Birth control pills that come in packs of 24 active pills and 4 placebos claim to have higher contraceptive efficacy. We think it may be because there is less time for the ovaries to "wake up" and begin the process of ovulating. It stands to reason that a shorter placebo week in a regular birth control pack would have the same benefit. There's no real downside to starting the new pack early. ...Read more

Check a PG test: Assuming that is negative, many pills do not build up enough tissue in the endometrium to cause a period and the way to show that is a pelvic ultrasound that I do in my patients to prove there are no problems. If that is normal you can either continue with the pills, as you do not have to have a period on the pills( many women like that) or switch to a higher dose pill to get periods. ...Read more

I started a new pill pack on a Thursday, took pill Friday, forgot Saturday, started a new pill pack Sunday to avoid confusion. Did not use back up?
Confusion: Confusion for sure. Are you referring to birth control or some other drug? if it's birth control and you had intercourse on the day you forgot to take your pill then yes, you are at risk and although I am glad you restarted another pack the very next day, I would still be very careful and mindful when the timing for your next period comes around...if it's late, take a pregnancy test to be sure. ...Read more

I got my new pack of Ortho Tricylen Lo late. Supposed to start a new pack Monday & ended up starting Wednesday. I didn't double the dose. Is this ok?
Did you have sex?: If you were off the pill for more than 7 days (counting the placebo pills - the last 7 of the last pack) then you are not currently protected against pregnancy and you should avoid intercourse or use condoms as backup for two weeks. Use over the counter Plan B if intercourse was within 72 hours to decrease the risk of unplanned pregnancy. ...Read more
On my second pack of birth control pills, stopped taking placebo pills of first pack 4 days in. Started a new pack on day 3 of period, am I protected?
Probably: I cannot tell exactly from your question, but as long as you did not go more than 7 days between the last active hormone pill of the first pack and the first active pill of the second pack, then you should be covered. You don't need to swallow the placebo pills, but they help you stay on time with the routine. ...Read more

Continue: We usually have you start the birth control pill when you're still on your period. You are probably already working towards ovulation, so starting the pill when you did effected your hormone levels, and the lining became unstable and you started bleeding. You should use a back up contraceptive during this first month. ...Read more
