What's the reason behind human body developing cancers, tumors, cysts, atherosclerosis? Why does human body malfunction today?
Malfunction: Not sure that the human body malfunctions so much, as it wears out. Also we are exposed to more toxins, are obese and have poor diets. Back in man's early age humans were more active, had a healthier diet. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If it is included: The drug given goes everywhere in the body, including the brain. How much of the body that is imaged depends on the disease being looked for. For lymphoma, scans start at the base of the brain and end at the upper thighs. For head and neck cancer, the scan is from the top of the head to the upper thighs. Melanoma includes the whole body, and seizures is just of the brain. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

MRI Scans: Mri scans are performed on isolated parts of the body for specific reasons. If a physician is concerned for brain, spine or joint infections, than a targed MRI is a great test. It would never be used to screen a whole body. It would take hours and be very expensive. As an example, a brain MRI takes about 45 minutes. A total spine MRI takes up to 2.5 hours. ...Read more

Does the human body naturally produce small LDL particles? Why or what are the functions of small LDL cholesterols in the human body?
LDL function.: LDL cholesterol does have a function in our bodies, so in some respects is necessary. The small dense LDL particles to which you refer, however, are more atherogenic than the other large buoyant LDL particles. Niacin supplementation can improve your LDL subtype, changing small dense LDL to large buoyant LDL. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How long does human herpes 8 virus , the one that causes kaposi sarcoma, live outside the body on a door handle?
Both not uncommon: Thyroid tumors are unique in that in spite of the excessive blood supply to the gland, metastasis is essentially never found. Stimulation from pituitary can produce glandular adenomas and conversion to Ca. The liver is not a common site of primary disease such as hepatoma from Hep B and C. Rather many of the tumors are metastatic due from colon, lung, breast. ...Read more

Eyes to thighs: Even though the study is called whole body pet/ct, most often the image acquisition is from the eyes to thighs. The parts of the body that are included varies from center to center and also depends on the patient's symptoms and cancer histopathology. For e.g. Melanomas can metastasize anywhere in the body and thus real whole body scans are obtained (skull vertex to toes). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Ask your doc...: FDG-enhanced PET/CT is to show the unusual increase or decrease in glucose metabolism at certain areas of the body especially inside a mass - before or after drug treatment. Based on the features and distribution of FDG imaging enhancement as defined from experience, a diagnosis can be drawn; of course, biopsy is ultimate means for confirmation. So, ask doc - treating or radiologist timely. ...Read more

I'm going to lose both big toenails (see pic). I was close to liver failure 8months ago & malnourished ever since. Podiatrist appt on Wednesday.
CT SCAN of abdomen says, the dome of the liver is partially excluded. The liver is normal in size and attenuation,on noncontrast image.what does it mean?
Didn't get to see it: "Excluded" means it wasn't in the pictures. Somehow, the tech or someone made a mistake and didn't get enough pictures. The abdomen starts at the diaphragm (which covers the top, or dome, of the liver on the right side). A CT of the abdomen should go from the diaphragm through the pelvis. However, in your case they started lower down - missing the top (or dome) of the liver. ...Read more

Yes and No.: The human body is pretty resilient and can right itself even when pushed far from equilibrium. What is the acceptable alluminum content in a human body and what are symtims of excessive alliminum?
Unreliable: Aluminum is stored mostly in bone, and doesn't circulate much in blood; aluminum levels are notoriously unreliable. If your doctor has a concern for this, he can order a Deferoxamine infusion test, and interpret to see (it is not as simple as a simple high/low value). Aluminum toxicity classically results in an anemia picture due to its effect on blood cell generation. ...Read more
