Fatty liver risks: Fatty liver is incredibly common, predominantly due to: high alcohol intake, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity. My father has an ileostomy bag, CT shows sign of spread towards liver &nodes very small can he take milk thistle and cod liver oil if yes what dosage?

When to get checked: Your dad has been through a lot. Cod liver oil and thistle likely won't hurt him. However, please check in with the docs on his team, both surgical and oncology about additional options for his care. Go with your dad to help understand risk/benefit analysis, stage and life expectancy. Be well. ...Read more

Does Liverite Aid tablets really cleanse the liver?

Does Liverite Aid tablets really cleanse the liver?

No.: The few human studies done on the active ingredients in Liverite have not shown any conclusive improvement in liver function. The liver does not need cleansing. The best way to support the liver is avoiding alcohol, minimizing OTC pain relievers, especially acetaminophen, watching your weight, avoiding toxic chemicals, and getting the hepatitis A and B vaccines. Don't waste your money. Good luck. ...Read more

Does marijuana harm the liver, I have stage 4 liver disease?

Does marijuana harm the liver, I have stage 4 liver disease?

Not a good idea: Marijuana is metabolized by the liver, so it will put a stress on the liver. If you have liver disease, it's a good idea not to put unnecessary stress on your liver function. It's important to think about what marijuana does for you - does it help with nausea? Sleep? Appetite? Anxiety? If so, you might seek a psychiatric or medical consultation to find other means of symptoms control & comfort. ...Read more

Can I do a liver cleanse & gallbladder/gallstone flush while i'm on terbafine hydrochloride?

Can I do a liver cleanse & gallbladder/gallstone flush while i'm on terbafine hydrochloride?

No such thing: Don't believe everything you read, and don't take any supplements, herbs, otc products, or vitamins without a specific recommendation by your doctor. You often hear also about colon flush or bowel cleansing - i had a patient almost die from this. The body mostly takes care of itself, and interfering with that process is dangerous unless under a doctor's management. ...Read more

High liver emzymes ALT 64 &. Ast 63 . I have been taking virgin coconut oil 3 table spoon per day and apple cider vinegar.. Never had high emzymes .

Many causes: Elevated liver enzymes can have many causes- acute or chronic viruses, side effects of drugs, alcohol, environmental toxins and (most commonly) nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. I know of no evidence that coconut oil or apple cider vinegar raises liver enzymes, though 3 tbsp a day of coconut oil is a lot. See you doc to evaluate. Continue workup: Food isn't the key. You need to have hemochromatosis, Wilson's, and autoimmune hepatitis ruled out. Chances are that this is your liver's way of telling you that it wants you to get back to that fitness-focused lifestyle you enjoyed as a teen. Why not start today? Best wishes. ...Read more

Liver problem. I am non alcolic. Age 31 my height 1.76. Weight 86. Alt 103 AST 46. No hepatit. Liver is not so big. What i must do?

Find cause: Your physician may repeat this off all rx's, or proceed directly to testing for hepatitis b & c if not done already, hemochromatosis, wilson's, autoimmune hepatitis, and maybe a few others. If all negative, perhaps you're one of those folks for whom heavy-duty aerobic conditioning helps control elevated liver function tests and overall wellness. Good luck. ...Read more

Does apple cider vinager lower elevated liver ensymes?

Does apple cider vinager lower elevated liver ensymes?

Find and Rx cause: Please forgive my frankness. If your liver enzymes are really up, you need to work with your physician to find a treatable cause. If it's alcohol, stop. If it's a medication you're allergic to, change it. If it's hepatitis, hemochromatosis, or wilson's, your life depends on compliance. If it's lack of exercise (the most common today), hit the fitness stuff. Supplements aren't health's key. ...Read more
