What can a hsv2 type specific IgG result value of 17.2 tell me other than obviously being 'positive'? I've never had outbreaks. This is my first test.

What can a hsv2 type specific IgG result value of 17.2 tell me other than obviously being 'positive'? I've never had outbreaks. This is my first test.

Exposure: This means that you have had exposure to the virus and have developed immunity to the virus. If the IgM to hsv2 was negative, then you don't have an active disease. ...Read more

I have hsv2 and received my test results IgM 3.69 and IgG 3.0. What do these numbers mean?

Recent infection: Igm antibodies are the first type produced by the immune system after an infection, but they are transient. Igg takes a while to get produced by the immune system, but may last for years or more. With both types elevated, you were likely exposed to the hsv2 within the past few months--long enough to start making igg but not too long to lose the igm. See an id specialist or immunologist if more ?S. ...Read more

How likely is it to have IGG for hsv2 above 2 three weeks past onset of symptoms? Would this be new or existing infection?

How likely is it to have IGG for hsv2 above 2 three weeks past onset of symptoms? Would this be new or existing infection?

A little early but: With an acute infection, IgM is the antibody produced. It is possible but unusual to get an IgG response in 2 wks thus I would suspect that this is from a past infection. ...Read more

Hsv2 IGG value of 2.06. Could this be an indication of infection at 4 weeks, or sometime in the past?

Maybe false positive: With the most common HSV test (HerpeSelect), an HSV2 index value over 1.1 is technically positive, but many results 1.1 - 3.5 are false. This could be a new infection at 4 weeks, in which case a repeat test in a few weeks will give a higher number -- but probably not if you had no symptoms. If repeat test is also under 3.5, you'll need a confirmatory test such as Western blot. ...Read more

On August 1, 2016 I tested 1.94 for HSV 1 IgG and 21.70 for HSV 2 IgG. What does it mean? Am I hi positive with HSV2? Should sex be totally avoided?

On August 1, 2016 I tested 1.94 for HSV 1 IgG and 21.70 for HSV 2 IgG. What does it mean? Am I hi positive with HSV2? Should sex be totally avoided?

Protection: The above results tell you that you have been infected with both and currently have some protection against both. It does not tell you whether you have an active infection or not (IgM would be a better indicator) and thus you cannot rule out transmitting HSV2 during sex even in the absence of an active lesion. Best to use condom and to inform your partner about your HSV2 ...Read more

Is it true that you may present symptoms of hsv2 years after contracting the infection? If so, after X amount of years, would the IGg test be lower or higher. I will preface this by stating I have not been tested yet, but I may be seeing the first signs

HSV Testing: You should get tested at a lab for HSV1/HSV2, HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. Are you sexually active? You should have your sexual partners for the past 60 days tested as well. You can tell them that your doctor thinks you should be tested to be safe. There are treatments for HSV 1 & 2. The testing IgG level is not exact for when you were infected. Most important is testing & treatment. ...Read more

My Gyno did some blood wrk to chk for herpes I believe igg hsv1 & hsv2 came bk positive. I've only been w/ one man my husband how did I get hsv2?

Tricky herpes: The truth is, herpes has been affecting us humans for a long time-and so it's actually 'adapted' to us. In other words, it doesn't always cause a terrible flare up of herpes rashes. In fact, only 5% of all patients who are infected have symptoms. That means the other 95% may not have anything-just the virus is there, going along for a free ride as viruses are known to do. Talk to your GYN about it ...Read more

I have hsv2 and my blood test results came back 3.69 IgM and 3.0 igg. What do the results mean?

New and old exposure: From your blood work, it looks like you've been recently exposed to the hsv 2. If you don't have any lesions, they might appear and sometimes they might not. The blood test merely shows your immune system's response to the virus. ...Read more
