Hsv1 Or Hsv2 Test
My husband did a STD blood test and got results of hsv-1 detected, hsv-2 not detected. Is hsv-1 an std? Can hsv-1 change to hsv-2?
HSV testing: Without knowing which test you were given and what the values of positive testing it is difficult to say. Normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories. Some labs use different measurements or test different samples. Talk to your doctor about the meaning of your specific test results. Hope this helps. ...Read more
Herpes test done. Herpes IgG test results. Hsv1. 5.6. Hsv2 <.90. So do I need to be worried about hsv1? No symptoms ever. Help?
Yes: The antibody testing for Herpes simplex is usually accurate, but distinguishing between Types 1 & 2 may be problematic depending upon the test employed. Herpes can produce ocular infection and if you have these symptoms you should be seen by an ophthalmologist immediately, before your vision may be permanently affected. ...Read more
Yes: Herpes simplex viruses -- more commonly known as herpes -- are categorized into two types: herpes type 1 (hsv-1, or oral herpes) and herpes type 2 (hsv-2, or genital herpes). Most commonly, herpes type 1 causes sores around the mouth and lips (sometimes called fever blisters or cold sores). Hsv-1 can cause genital herpes, but most cases of genital herpes are caused by herpes type 2. ...Read more
Diagnosed w/ hsv1&hsv2. Hsv2 was cultured from genitals. Hsv1 antibodies in bloodwork. How do I know if it is oral or genital? No cold sore
You have both: You cultured HSV 2 from the genitals so this means that the current lesion on the genitals is HSV 2. If your blood HSV 2 antibody was negative then you also know that the HSV 2 is newly acquired less than 6 weeks ago. You also learned that in the past you acquired HSV 1 since your antibodies are positive. ...Read more
HSV2 igg 1.5 IGM neg no s/s of infection. never lesions, Thoughts. false (+) or (+) genital herpes infection. virus dormant like HSV1? any worries
Maybe false positive: The HSV IgM antibody test is notoriously unreliable. Real herpes and STD experts never order that test and always ignore the result and so should you. If you have also had an IgG antibody test that is negative, you can safely assume your IgM result is false and that you don't have HSV2. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I had an IGG serology test that came back positive for HSV1 & negative for HSV2.How can I find out if its oral or genital?I've never had an outbreak.
HSV1 stands for oral: while HSV2 stands for the genital form, you don't need to have an outbreak, those antibodies mean that you were exposed, disease can spread even if the sores aren't present ...Read more
Can someone with genital herpes have a western blot when there's no outbreak?ive had hsv1 on mouth many times, blood test said hsv2 1.25 & hsv1 5.0
Positive blood test for HSV2 antibodies, does this mean I have genital herpes? I've never had an outbreak ...I'm confused -
Herpes: Herpes blood tests can be misleading. 90% of people with antibodies to HSV2 have been exposed to genital herpes and 10% to oro-labial (mouth) herpes. The opposite is true of HSV1 - 90% have exposure to oro-labial and 10% to genital. It's possible to be exposed and have never had an outbreak. Maybe you never will. If you develop painful burning lesions around genitals or mouth it could be herpes. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Culture + hsv-1 genital. Blood test 3 wk later hsv-1: 2.21 hsv-2: >5.00. Possible both are genital? Higher antibodies in hsv-2 mean older infection?
How accurate are IGG blood test for herpes for person never having an outbreak? Partner tested positive for hsv2.
It depends...: The HSV IgG blood tests are good but not perfect. With the most common test (HerpeSelect®), strong positive (HSV2 index 3.5 or more) is proof of infection, regardless of symptoms. Negative (under 0.9) also is conclusive. Index >1.1 is officially positive, but many results 1.1-3.5 are false. Other IgG tests less well studied. Such uncertainties are why HSV blood tests often are controversial. ...Read more
