HSV 1 IgG: HSV 1 is the virus associated with cold sores. 90% of american test positive for past exposure. HSV 2 is genital herpes. IgM refers to a new antibody formed from recent infection. IgG refers to an old antibody from past exposure. You are positive for only HSV1 IgG. So just like 90% of Americans you have been exposure to HSV1 in the past. You do not have HSV2. ...Read more

Whats the meaning of Herpes Type 1 IgG- Serum Positive, Herpes Type 2 IgG - Serum Negative and Herpes 1+2 IgM Ab Serum Negative? Thats my results

Whats the meaning of Herpes Type 1 IgG- Serum Positive, Herpes Type 2 IgG - Serum Negative and Herpes 1+2 IgM Ab Serum Negative? Thats my results

HSV1, no HSV2: The results mean you are carrying herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1), usually from oral infection in childhood, so you probably have had it for years. But if you have had symptoms that suggest genital herpes, it could be a genital infection. You do not have HSV2, the usual cause of genital herpes. I takes up to 12 weeks for positive results, so these results do not exclude recent infection. ...Read more

Herpes 2 IgG lab result read 177.40 and herpes 2 IgM lab result read 0.18, how should I interpret this?

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it appears that had herpes infection a while ago. ...Read more

Anti HSV 1&2 IgG test positive and anti HSV 1& 2 IgM test negative....What does that mean?

You have Herpes: There should be two results for the igg one for type one and one for type two. But having positive results for herpes for either or both viruses means you have been exposed sometime in the remote past and that the results do not represent a new infection. ...Read more

My friend test std, results . chlamydia trachomatis positive, abnormal andnon reactive negative. Hsv 2 igG. 2.69. HSV 1 igG. 37.90. the me?

What's the question?: You don't ask a question -- I'm not sure what information you're looking for. These HSV test results are positive for both HSV1 and HSV2. However, when the HSV1 IgG antibody test is very strongly positive and the HSV2 result is much lower, as in your friend, the HSV2 result sometimes is false. Additional testing, preferably with a Western blot test, can sort it out. ...Read more

Hsv1 IgG 53.60 high Hsv 2 IgG <0.91 Hsv IgM I/II combo 1.48 high What does all this mean? My herpes results from the lab! Doc wasn't helpful

HSV serology: Without knowing specifically what test technique was utilized cannot give you specifics other than to say that you have had Herpes simplex Type 1 infection sometime in the past and probably have not had Type 2, since even though you show some antibody it may be overlap from the Type 1 antibody. Why wasn't the doctor helpful? Talk to them and insist. Why did you do this anyway? ...Read more

Hsv 1/2 antibody blood tests -- would this blood test always test IgG and igm? Hsv 2 negative -- i assume for both IgG and igm?

HSV testing: Igm is the first antibody type to be produced in an immune reaction to a foreign invader such as a virus. Over time, the igm response changes to igg. Some tests will examine igm to determine if the infection is new (recent), some tests look at igg to see if there is evidence of an older infection or exposure. The physician selects the appropriate test depending upon the question they need answered. ...Read more

Are my HSV 1/2 tests positive or negative. I took a HSV 1/2 IgG type specific AB test. Results : HSV-1 >5.00 HSV-2 0.04?

HSV-1 pos, HSV-2 neg: I read the results such that you have been exposed to the HSV-1 that typically causes cold sores, while you have not been exposed to HSV-2. Keep in mind, though, that genital herpes is now more and more found to be caused by HSV-1. ...Read more

HSV 1+2 Serum test resut- 1.77 & HSV Type 1+2 PCR DNA result Negative. Can't understand the difference between two results.

Need details: PCR will detect herpes virus if present on the skin. If no virus is shedding at the time, then it shows negative. But herpes is present in a dormant form in a nerve and is detected by noting serum antibodies. Antibodies are specific immunity which contain the virus but fail to reach inside a nerve. When the virus sometimes comes out onto the skin it can be detected by PCR. When the virus is only i ...Read more

I tested positive on HSV 1 IgG type spec 31.90 and negative on HSV 2 IgG is this bad?

No: Not really good or bad--nearly all adults have positive antibodies to herpes (HSV) and most of that is HSV 1--this is the virus that causes oral cold sores mostly, though can cause genital lesions. HSV 2 usually causes genital herpes--lesions in the genital area--but can cause oral herpes too. Being negative for HSV 2 just means you've never had that type of herpes. \. ...Read more

Pcr blood test for hsv1 & hsv2 both negative 7 weeks post exposure. Is this a reliable test vs igg antibody testing?

HSV testing: Both are good. A PCR blood test looks for circulating viral DNA. The IgG look for the development of an antibody against the virus. If these are not present 7 weeks after exposure then the most likely conclusion is that you did not acquire it. ...Read more
