HSV 2 : A positive igg antibody test (what you had) for hsv means you have antibodies from a previous infection--not necessarily a current one. Treatment depends on how often you break out--if you don't break out often, you may not need anything. There is no permanent treatment to rid yourself of the virus. Your doc can give you the best advice. ...Read more

My hsv 1 igg came back at 49.90. No clue how. I have been with my wife for 12 years. What does this mean. No hsv 2 igg.

Not much: Most people have been exposed to HSV1 at some time and thus the IgG antibody- which actually offers protection against the virus. HSV2 is however a different story. ...Read more

HSV-1 pos, HSV-2 neg: I read the results such that you have been exposed to the HSV-1 that typically causes cold sores, while you have not been exposed to HSV-2. Keep in mind, though, that genital herpes is now more and more found to be caused by HSV-1. ...Read more

Am I herpes negative or positive? HSV 2, IgG result is 1/80 (Ref Range Negative is < 1/40), HSV I, IgG result is 1/80 (Ref Range Negative is < 1/40).

Probably yes, but...: I'm not familiar with HSV blood tests that give results as fractions or titers. With other tests (e.g. HerpeSelect®), any positive HSV1 result usually is valid, but weakly positive results (which is what I suspect is how to interpret your HSV2 result) often are false and require confirmation. In most countries, over half of adults are HSV1 positive, no big deal. But you'll need to clarify HSV2. ...Read more

What does it mean to have a 4.99 result on HSV 2 igg?

Genital herpes: You have HSV2. Location uncertain, but almost certainly genital, whether or not you have outbreaks (blisters, sores, etc); oral is uncommon without genital. Regardless of symptoms, probably you periodically have HSV2 in the genital area and could transmit it during sex with an uninfected partner. Be on the lookout for mild outbreaks. Treatment with valacyclovir can help prevent transmission. ...Read more
