HSV 1 infection: Whether you realize it or not you are infected with HSV 1- the cold sore virus. It is actually very common. This virus "hides" in a nerve root and will come out at times of 'stress'-- such as when sick with another illness. That's why we call them 'cold sores' or 'fever blisters'. Your treatment would depend on how much trouble the virus is giving you. Your primary MD should be able to help. ...Read more

Results :

HSV-1 >5.00
HSV-2 0.04?

HSV-1 pos, HSV-2 neg: I read the results such that you have been exposed to the HSV-1 that typically causes cold sores, while you have not been exposed to HSV-2. Keep in mind, though, that genital herpes is now more and more found to be caused by HSV-1. ...Read more

Hsv 1/ 2 -- result for 1 was indeterminate and 2 was neg. Tested again 5 mos later for IgG (not type specific). Test was reactive. Why now reactive?

Not formed yet: The bodies initial response is with igm, which is less specific. The immune system then produces permanent antibodies igg, which appear around 3 months. Blood test has to be ordered for type specific igg type i or type ii. ...Read more

HSV-1 & HSV-2 if in the oral area looks a like or their is any diference between one type of blisters and the other?

HSV-1 & HSV-2 if in the oral area looks a like or their is any diference between one type of blisters and the other?

No difference: There is no difference at all. Genital HSV2 infection usually causes more frequent outbreaks and asymptomatic viral shedding than either oral or genital HSV1, and therefore genital HSV2 is more frequently transmitted to exposed persons. But there are no differences in the symptoms, appearance of lesions, or severity of outbreaks from either virus, whether oral or genital. ...Read more

HSV 1+2 Serum test resut- 1.77 & HSV Type 1+2 PCR DNA result Negative. Can't understand the difference between two results.

HSV 1+2 Serum test resut- 1.77 & HSV Type 1+2 PCR DNA result Negative. Can't understand the difference between two results.

Need details: PCR will detect herpes virus if present on the skin. If no virus is shedding at the time, then it shows negative. When the virus sometimes comes out onto the skin it can be detected by PCR. When the virus is only i ...Read more

I contracted herpes hsv 1 from a sexworker 17 years back . After the sex i develop small bumps one head of the penis which itches. for last two years?

Here are some...: Current small bumps on glans penis are less likely related with HSV-I contracted 17 yrs ago. Instead, go to let urologist take a look to see if what you have is related with long foreskin. If yes, good topical hygiene with possible later circumcision may be required. To have the needed healthcare things done correctly, follow instructions in http://formefirst.com/eNewsletter06.html. ...Read more

Welcome to the club!: Roughly half of all adults in the US have positive blood tests for HSV1 -- up to 70% at your age of 67. So welcome to a club with 150 million members! Most of these infections are oral, although some are genital. The majority are asymptomatic and remain that way, but many have recurrent oral herpes (cold sores, fever blisters).
