You are right: In 2001, hpv dna testing was approved for asc-us triage, the reflex testing of pap tests interpreted as asc-us. In 2003, hpv dna testing received expanded labeling to be used as a co-test with the pap in women over the age of 30. Although hpv testing is not a replacement for cytology, it does provide important adjunctive information that can be useful in managing patients. ...Read more

No just acquired: Hpv infection that causes genital papillomas , and in some cases carcinoma of cervix , you got it now , did not have it before, get it eradicated , it is difficult but not impossible, speak to your gyn doctor first. ...Read more

Depends: Most women are able to eliminate the hpv infection, with time. It is not clear what hpv test was done, or if you have active infection. Too many acronyms : Whenever a test is done somebody has to say what is positive or negative in a result about it. These are all summed up in the sensitivity and specificity of the particular test. Check with Dr.: The reason for doing pap smears with hpv is to prevent cervical cancer. Oftentimes they can find it early enough that it can be destroyed locally. It's hard to tell exactly what your abnormalities are. Follow-up with your doctor and you should be able to find out the specifics of these abnormalities. Don't panic: A colposcopy sounds scarier than it is, it just means looking at your cervix with a big magnifying glass. If all looks well your doc will just give you close follow up after the pregnancy.
