Pap came back hpv+/cin1. Had colposcopy/biopsy. Came back mild. New pap came back mild-severe/cin2. Doc recommends leep next week. Need for worry?

LEEP biopsy: A leep biopsy is the next step. As long as you follow your doctors plan for treatment you will not have much to worry about. Most dysplasias once discovered are removed by a leep. If not a larger biopsy such as a cervical cone biopsy can be performed. ...Read more

Hpv (Definition)

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection. There are over 100 different types of HPV that causes warts in different areas of the body. HPV is incredibly common and almost all sexually active men and women get it during their lifetime. Most of the time HPV does not cause any symptoms or complications. Does abnormal pap always result in HPV if chlamydia and gonorrhea came back neg?

Does abnormal pap always result in HPV if chlamydia and gonorrhea came back neg?

Abnormal pap smear: Most abnormal pap smears are due to HPV, even if HPV itself doesn't show up on testing. There are exceptions, but only a minority are not from HPV. Whether or not other STDs like chlamydia or gonorrhea are present makes no difference. If you have had an abnormal pap smear, discuss it with your doctor and follow her advice about further testing, follow-up, etc. Good luck! ...Read more

In right course...: You have been in right course of care and luckily so far you are on safe side. Remember no test including biopsy can bring a 100 % of firm diagnosis as it is supposed to do and every life event including a disease always displays on its pattern of full spectrum; hence it is hard to discern what it may be at the early stage of disease and at the very end, almost anyone can tell what it is. 5 months ago my pap came back abnormal with high risk HPV now she said my pap smear came back normal does that mean its gone? Or hasn't gotten worse?

Pap Smears: It would appear to me that you are confusing two different results on pap smears. First, the main reason for a pap smear is to examine the cells to see if any of them have changed to predict a risk of cancer. Second, the cells are studied for high risk hpv dna to see if there is any risk of future changes that would predict cancer. ...Read more

Sept 2012 pap came back abnormal. I had colposcopy and all was fine. Had another pap done last week, came back w/ signs of cervical dysplaisa????????

Very common: It is not unusual for a pap smear to return as abnormal on a follow up pap. It does not mean that you have cancer. Your doctor may repeat the pap in 6 months because it is not unusual for the dysplasia to resolve or your doctor may want to do another colposcopy. You and your doctor will decide the treatment that best fits you. The important thing is that you do not skip your pap smears ...Read more

Colpscopy in 2010. Showed mild hpv. Have had two normal pap smears. Does that mean HPV is gone? Can i get back hpv?

You still have it,,,: You still have hpv once you got it. The purpose of the pap is to keep checking for changes that can become or are cervical cancer. You've had 2 normal pap smears. If they were consecutive, you could wait 3 years until you get your next pap, but looking at your history, you might be better off still doing it every year. It would be smart to talk to your doctor for the best course of action. ...Read more

1st pap HPV Pos and LGSIL, Colpo Confirm, 2nd pap HPV Neg and LGSIL Pos, 3rd pap HPV Neg and AGSUS Pos. (@ 6mo intervals) Does this mean its worse?

1st pap HPV Pos and LGSIL, Colpo Confirm, 2nd pap HPV Neg and LGSIL Pos, 3rd pap HPV Neg and AGSUS Pos. (@ 6mo intervals) Does this mean its worse?

No: It's actually good news. Women under the age of 30 often clear HPV infections on their own, at least more readily than those over 30. The fact that you no longer test positive for HPV means it has cleared, and the ASGUS just means there are abnormal cells but not abnormal enough to classify it as a precancerous lesion on the cervix. This is much better than LGSIL. Keep monitoring and good luck! ...Read more

Sore throat: You can have a sore throat from many causes, including mono, strept throat and cold, and other viruses. But if you worry that you are at risk for HIV, perhaps you can ask your doctor to test for it so you can have peace of mind, and not be scared if you don't have it. ...Read more

My test for rubella came back nonreactive. Whats that?

No immunity: A negative test for rubella immunity indicates your body has never developed protective antibodies to rubella. You either never had it , were not immunized, or the test does not find a protective level of antibodies in your blood. If you are female, it means you could pass rubella to your fetus if u are exposed to the illness during pregnancy & get the disease. ...Read more

I got tested for hpv came back negative but I see a bump on the inner side of my vagina what can it be?

Many possibilities: There are all sorts of bumps and irregularities of the labia minor, vaginal lining, etc. It could still be a genital warts despite your negative HPV test. But probably not; genital warts rarely occur as single bumps, usually several. Various cysts, skin tags, etc are very common as well. Recently had a pap smear it was normal. But was tested for HPV and came back positive. Why would i be tested for HPV I am under 30 w/ norm pap?

You are right: In 2001, hpv dna testing was approved for asc-us triage, the reflex testing of pap tests interpreted as asc-us. In 2003, hpv dna testing received expanded labeling to be used as a co-test with the pap in women over the age of 30. Although hpv testing is not a replacement for cytology, it does provide important adjunctive information that can be useful in managing patients. ...Read more

Hormonal imbalance: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

How is HPV contracted? PAP came back "inadequate" & NEG for HPV 16, 18 & POS for 31-68. Only have 1 partner. What happens now w/ me & my partner? :(

You don’t have HPV: Your pap result indicate that you are negative for HPV meaning that you don’t have it. In this case nothing happens to you since you don’t have HPV. HPV is transmitted sexually. An “inadequate” results means that there were not enough cells to determine if the cells themselves were normal or not. Just wait until...: Thus far all your gyn-care has been timely adequate, and just wait for the upcoming follow-up for reporting cervical biopsy and counseling for all the findings of all tests which may be meant to your individual condition. This is most logical, and sporadic online opinion may bring some unnecessary confusion, anxiety, & fear. To do well for such, go to http://formefirst.com/onDealSickness.html. ...Read more

If I have HPV does my male partner have hpv? And how will it clear up in 2 years if my partner has HPV too? Wont I get the HPV back?

Yes - it will - no: If you have hpv, your partner has been exposed and likely infected. 80% of hpv infections are cleared in the first year by the immune system, and 90% by three years. Once you have had and cleared any virus (including hpv), your immune system prevents reinfection - so you will not get the same virus again. ...Read more
