How can I help my baby wih gas? I have a 10 week old baby thats breastfed and is very gassy and gas drops don't seem to help is there anything else i can do for her
Every : Every baby has gas, just some are more bothered by it than others. The good news is that over time, gassiness and fussiness improve. In the mean time, here are a few tips to help get you through the next few weeks to months: - don't change your diet. Even though many folks will tell you this or that food causes breastfed babies to be gassy, none of it has actually been proven with research. Keep a varied diet so that you and your baby can get all the nutrients you need. If your baby does have a food sensitivity (such as milk protein allergy) she will have other signs of illness such as poor weight gain, vomiting or bloody stool. - burp frequently. Many babies (especially the voracious eaters) will suck in air as they eat. Try burping her every 3-5 minutes and between breasts to avoid all that air having to travel through her gut instead. - check your letdown. Do you have a forceful milk letdown causing your baby to choke, cough, gag, or gulp air? If so, check out the website below for helpful tips. - encourage regular stooling. Babies who do not poop often can be gassy. If your baby is only having a bowel movement once a day or less, you may want to encourage more frequent stooling with 1 oz of prune or pear juice per day. - check for thrush. Thrush is a fungal infection in a newborn's mouth which looks like white plaques on the tongue, inside the cheeks and lips. Thrush can also worsen gassiness and fussiness. Call your child's doctor if you suspect a thrush infection. I hope this helps! it will get better. ...Read more
Can I give my son worm medicine he is 1yr and 3mths. If not what can I give him? And how can I know for sure that he has worms?
My doctor tells me i'm too young for tablets or help but i seem to be getting worse (depressed) each day are there any ways i can ease it on my own?
Adolescent depressed: Many young people suffer depression and many get help. I would try psychotherapy before tablets since you can learn useful ways to live in general and avoid side effects. But a combo may be most helpful if needed. On your own, you can pay attention to your diet, rest, exercise, social life and try to keep those healthy. Learn a new skill or craft. Read, write, listen, photograph, bake, build, walk. ...Read more

Monitoring: Some form of IV sedation is usually given for endoscopic procedures. Propofol is used by some physicians. What do you suggest if my son is 13 mths old and will not chew his food how can I get him to realize that he needs to chew the food?
Not him, you!: If he has not developmentally conquered chewing solid foods properly, you don't give them to him. You wouldn't put a newborn sitting on a chair because they don't have the skill yet to do that. He will develop the skill. He may need a speech/feeding therapist to help if it doesn't come naturally by 16-18 months. In the meantime ,you don't give him foods he could choke on if not chewed. Period. ...Read more

My one year old has constant painful stools (constipation) what can I do? Someone told me to give him a little miralax (polyethylene glycol). Can that help or harm him?
Increase fluids: Most important to constipation is to make sure the child is getting plenty of fluids. At 12 months, can add a few ounces of water to daily milk intake, and if stools are harder than normal, a few ounces of juice can be added from a cup as well. Don't get into habit of juice from a bottle. Add extra fiber to diet. If persists, talk to doc about what meds may help, like miralax- can be very helpful! ...Read more

I think mom has depression, what signs can I look for? Shes very difficult to talk to so how can I help her without a professional around?
Care and Concern: It is sometimes hard to talk to family members about feelings and emotions. I would encourage you to be patient for a time when things are relatively peaceful and calm. Then, just share your conncerns in a simple and gentle way. Remember, you cannot be responsible for how your mother reacts - just stay focused on showing her that you care about her and want to suport her. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Be not nervous...: As president franklin d. Roosevelt once said, "... The only thing we have to fear is fear itself ... ". Medicine is full of uncertainties, so one must find a doctor to trust. Constipation treatment, however, is pretty standard. The doctor can recommend over-the-counter drugs (miralax, mag citrate, etc...) or new prescription treatments (amitiza, linzess, etc...) that do work when used properly. ...Read more

Stomach & kidney: Ibuprofen is really meant for short term use for pain. The maximum dose is 800 mg three times a day. If a higher dose is taken, or even the regular dose for a long period of time it can cause stomach ulcers and kidney failure. Thanks for getting help for your friend. This is a dangerous practice. Check for pregnancy: Women who have sex do get pregnant. So, one has to be ready to be a mom and a wife, or not have sex (because contraception is not 100% effective). One can do a home pregnancy test if more than 3 weeks after sex, or missing one's normal regular period. If pregnant, one can go to a women's health clinic, or similar clinic, farther away from home. Also, most moms are helpful even if they get angry. ...Read more
How can I help my 4 year old daughter poop easier? She trys to go numerous times before it will come and they are big
Impaction: Prolonged periods of time without a bowel movement (less than a week) are likely not dangerous for an otherwise healthy child, but can be quite uncomfortable and more difficult to address as more time passes. A glycerin suppository or Fleets enema are generally required at this stage to get things moving, followed by several weeks of stool softening, dietary modification and bowel retraining. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
