Clarinase is combo: Of non-sedating antihistamine (for allergies) & decongestant. In my experience antihistamines tend to "lock congestion in place" whereas decongestants work to open passages to remove congestion; so clarinase ingredients r fighting each other. Try just a decongestant like sudafed along with saline nasal spray to loosen mucous congestion. ...Read more
Depends: If symptoms have lasted less than 7days, use Ibuprofen 400 3 times a day for 3days, then as needed. Take 2 showers a day, as warm as you can tolerate, run the water right on your face to heat and and humidify the mucous, so you can cough it up and blow your nose more easily, then put mentholatum right under your nostrils. Underlying cause: Many times these are related to underlying environmental allergies, & so tx aimed at that can help a lot. An otc option that i usually tell my patients about are nasal saline sprays & sometimes nasal rinse products. Pls be careful to follow the directions carefully! otc antihistamines are plentiful but can have interactions. I usually recomend that my pts avoid decongestants.
