Some ulcers are caused by a bacteria and will need to be treated with antibiotics along with the ppi. SKILL?: I assume by skill, you mean are able to eat certain foods and stay well? Certainly, there are known trigger food for ulcers and Acid indigestion/reflux disease, and Coffee and hot tea are on the top of the list. So I do not recommend that to my patients, even if they are controlled and "skilled." As, Diet and avoidance of triggers remains the mainstay of treatment! Good luck. ...Read more

Does omeprazole treat stomach ulcers ? And is it effective ?

Yes: Omeprazole is used to treat ulcers and is effective. Ulcers can reoccur however. There is a bacteria that is known to cause ulcers (H.pylorI). If you have that bacteria, then treating the bacteria with antibiotics can "cure" the ulcer and hopefully never return. You need to see your doctor to see if you have that bacteria and get it treated by antibiotics in addition to taking omeprazole. ...Read more
