Different: Different fungi exhibit different patterns and characteristics. As dr. Fowler suggested, try using an over-the-counter anti-fungal like lotrimin, Lamisil or tinactin, (tolnaftate) twice a day. If you don't see any improvement in a few days, see a podiatrist or dermatologist, as it might not be a fungus.

If you do see an improvement, keep using the cream twice a day for 30 days, since fungal spores live for 30 days. If you keep getting athlete's foot, you might want to keep using an anti-fungal cream once a day for life. There is also something called a steri-shoe, which is an ultraviolet light that will sterilize the insides of your shoes in 40 minutes. If you keep getting reinfected, you might want to invest in that. I've attached a link. ...Read more

Soles of feet are red, tender look swollen. Hard and peeling skin on the back of toes, hard skin and sore. Used athletes foot 5 days didn't help?

Tinea Pedis: It sounds like a tinea pedis or athletes foot. Fungus can be very resistant to medication. My 3 year old son has a mystery lung problem for over a year now. He has chronic bronchitis and multiple hospitalizations. He waas hospitalized with107 fever andnow peeling skin on his toes and fingers. What could it be?

Agree with both: I agree with both drs. Ferguson and belilovsky. This sounds like a complicated case and more than likely has more than 1 answer. The fevers/skin definitely raises the possibility of kawasakis, ut the other chronic lung problems are best evaluated by your pediatrician and a pulmonologist. Good luck. ...Read more

If: If you have fungal infection between the toes (commonly known as tinea pedis), treatment with antifungal powders (available otc) combined with topical antifungal creams such as terbinafine cream can be helpful. They are well tolerated and help in most instances. If that doesn't help, consider a visit to a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment options. I hope that helps! ...Read more

My husband has very swollen feet with burning, peeling skin he has a history of eczema and they hurt to move. It doesn't itch. Is this a foot fungus?

Not necessarily: If his feet are very swollen this can cause cracks in the skin and cause the skin to blister or peel. This could be due to eczema or just from the swelling. They can be painful due to the skin being broken to move them. Best to have them checked out, he may need a steroid cream, compression, or it could be a fungal infection, but the only way to know would be to have them looked at. ...Read more

Do I have a foot fungus? How can I get rid of dead peeling skin on my feet? I have very dry feet, the skin on the bottom of my feet have been peeling for as long as I can remember, I tried using a pumice stone, soaking them, getting a pedicure, but noth

There: There are several conditions that can cause peeling of the skin on your feet. Any process that triggers rapid renewal of the epidermis on your feet will contribute to thickened, peeling skin; in many cases this problem is merely due to an occupation that demands a lot of walking or standing.
Your doctor can readily diagnose a fungal infection by obtaining a skin scraping and examining it under a microscope. If this doesn't reveal the cause of your peeling, he/she can investigate for other potential causes (circulation problems, dyshidrosis, ichthyosis, autoimmune disorders, etc.).
If you haven't seen your doctor about this issue yet, I recommend you do so. ...Read more

Looks like spider bite on top of toes, went away and came back within 2 weeks. Painful, skin peeling, blister like with white pus inside?

Maybe: This could be mrsa. It might not be. As long as you've got no fever, there's no penetrating trauma, it's not expanding, and it's not very painful, it is reasonable to see what it does over the next couple of days. Warm epsom salt water soaks, dial soap and water scrubs, and maybe some topical antibiotic ointment would be my home treatment if the above criteria are met. ...Read more
