I had a neg Lyme test, was treated for a month with abx., had herx at that time. Now a yr later low grade fever and joint pain. Could this be Lyme?

Could be others: Depending on your exposure to ticks in your neck of the woods, you should have also been tested for other tick-borne illnesses since they travel in packs (Anaplasma, Babesia, Human granulocytic/monocytic Erlichiosis, others). If not tested, you could have one of these other infections, including Lyme, or else it my be entirely different diagnosis. It's best to get it evaluated by a doctor. ...Read more

Staetorrhea: First focus on the steatorrhea. I haven't run into that as a Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) side effect, but stopping " for a week or two won't hurt you. If you continue on the same diet and steatorrhea doesn't stop, you'll have an answer. Steatorrhea is a symptom of many different problems. ...Read more

My son has low grade fever , runny nose and cough , now he is breathing fast and it seems like retractions .Do i wake him up or wait till morning?

My son has low grade fever , runny nose and cough , now he is breathing fast and it seems like retractions .Do i wake him up or wait till morning?

Don't wait: If he is having retractions, that is concerning and should be evaluated now. Does he have a history of wheezing or asthma? If so, and you have a nebulizer or inhaler with albuterol, you should give him a treatment. If that doesn't help, he should be seen by the doctor. If he doesn't have any previous history, he should be seen by the doctor to determine the cause of his fast breathing. ...Read more

How would you treat a strep carrier that developed low grade fever with no sore throat ? Would you give antibiotic ? Which one ?

How would you treat a strep carrier that developed low grade fever with no sore throat ? Would you give antibiotic ? Which one ?

Do history and exam: If history suggests viral agent with nasal congestion and cough, then observation and Rx fever only would be appropriate for a person who is a strep carrier. However, many individuals do not complain of sore throat with strep, but on exam have a red palate, enlarged tonsils and cervical adenopathy. I would treat with amoxicillin or cephalosporoin or clindamycin. ...Read more
