Yes -plenty of germs: Doctors can test for Group A Strep -which is only one specific germ that can cause a throat infection (or pharyngitis if you want to be technical). Different viruses are also implicated (like mono, adenovirus, etc) but certainly other bacteria are on the list. Pertussis (Whooping cough) and diphtheria are two important ones. See an allergist: People with allergies have constant inflammation in the nose and sinuses. Nonallergic people can typically handle the inflammation of a viral infection without much trouble; but in an allergic person, adding the viral inflammation on top of the underlying allergic inflammation makes perfect conditions for bacteria to grow. Medication now: I am assuming your doctor has started you on antibiotic if not , you need to get some. You will not be on this forever only for a few days as long as the bug you have responds to the antibiotic. Adequate hydration and rest. Hope you feel better ...Read more
