I understand my parents are trying to help my lose weight but how can I tell them to not call me fat?

Seek other support: Let them know your respect that they are concerned about your weight and that they should respect you enough not to be derogatory. If you yourself want to lose weight try to see your physician for support. Giving them the benefit of the doubt they are trying to help but we both know they are not. Those kind of comments would cause many of my patients to possibly eat more for comfort.

Heavy?: You should speak to your doctor about your concern about your weight. Your physician will be able to tell if your weight and body mass index - bmi are in the average range. A discussion with your doctor is confidential meaning what you discuss with the doctor cannot be shared with your parents unless you consent.

See your doctor.: See your doctor to be sure of a diet that lowers risk of cancer and stroke. Stroke is mainly due to a history of hypertension, and atherosclerosis, so a low cholesterol, low salt diet would be best. A diet high in fiber can reduce risk for colon cancer, and fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants. Stop smoking and lower drinking to further reduce risk. Again see your doctor to be sure.

Cut down on carbohydrates, simple sugars to be eliminated, reduce other carbs, reduce fat intake. Diet including high fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables exercise at least 4to5 days a week.

Diet & exercise: Make sure you exercise 90 minutes a day, don't skip meals, avoid soda, juice, dairy, alcohol and fried foods. Reduce weight: This is a repeat of what I have said before. My philosophy is that the best way to lose weight is not by dieting, but by changing your lifestyle to a healthier one. You don't need a drastic diet. Make small changes. Eat the right portions, eat 3-5 small meals a day, cut back on carbs and sugars, increase lean protein/veggie/fruit/water intake, and start doing some cardiovascular exercise.
