How To Tell If Your Baby Has A Raised Fontanelle
In an infant, the space where two skull-bone sutures join forms a membrane-covered "soft spot" called a fontanel (fontanelle). The fontanels allow for growth of the skull during an infant's first year. The fontanels should feel firm and very slightly curved inward to the touch. A tense or bulging fontanel occurs when fluid builds up in the skull cavity or when pressure increases in the brain (increased intracranial pressure). When the infant is crying, lying down, or vomiting, the fontanels may look like they are slightly bulging, but they should return to normal when the infant is in ...Read more
Before/after birth ?: There are a variety of screening or confirmatory tests that can be done during pregnancy. After birth, many physical features are suggestive of the diagnosis, but the physician involved would order a chromosome test to confirm or exclude the issue.Over the years, some had signs so mild many would miss the diagnosis.Others looked so different I didn't believe it. ...Read more

Several : There are several different formulas designed just for babies with reflux. One is enfamil ar and another is similac rs. Many can/not always: Ds has a remarkably consistent set of physical features that a knowledgeable person will recognize in a newborn or older child. If a baby is born prematurely by 5 weeks, what do doctors look for to see if baby can breathe on its own or can maintain its own temperature?
Rather simple: The babies are observed and monitored for evidence of both breathing effectiveness and thermal stability. If a baby begins to work harder to breathe (visual cues) and the oxygen monitor shows a decline, the need for support is obvious. If the temperature probe taped to the body or rectal temps show instability, an external heat source is needed. ...Read more

My mom is 92. She recently has a rash in her back. It looks like shingle. What she needs to do if she is not able to see the dermatologist .?
See her primary: Shingles is something that family medicine and internal medicine doctors see often and are comfortable treating. If you can't get in to see your primary, i'd have her taken to an extended hours or urgent care clinic. If shingles is treated with medicine early on in it's course (<72 hours), then that helps to prevent complications and lingering pain from the virus. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What does the term lemon head mean for an unborn baby. My granddaughter in law went to a ob and they told her baby may have lemon head. Should we be worried?
Although : Although I am not familiar with the term "lemonhead". I suspect it may be similar to other slang like "cone head" or "melon head". If correct, this would signify that the baby's head may apppear elongated after it passes through the birth canal due to pressure of labor. The baby's head will become a normal shape again. I wish that medical personnel would not use this kind of term because it often scares and upset patients. ...Read more
