How To Taper Off Zoloft
Depends: Depends on the dose you were on, and your particular sensitivity to changes in ssri levels. If you're on 50mg or less, chances are you'd tolerate an abrupt discontinuation without side effects. Any higher dose than that, i'd recommend tapering. Personally, since there's virtually no downside to tapering, i taper everyone to 25 mg before discontinuing. Talk to your doc about tapering. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Slow taper: The ideal route would be to reduce it to 25 mg for 5 days, then take it alternate days for 3 days, then stop. ...Read more
I would like a second opinion on tapering of Zoloft (sertraline) 25 mg wd is pretty mild and easy. Not bothered much. What is general take for complete taper?
Can I switch from Paxil (paroxetine) 20 immediately to Zoloft 45 w/o tapering off Paxil (paroxetine)? I've had hard time getting off pax. I don't want to half both and take it.
Switching Rx: That dose of paxil (paroxetine) is not very high, and it's possible you could make the switch. The zoloft should help take its place. If you have any thoughts about how to change from one to the other though, you should get your instructions from your long term provider. They should have a chance to approve anything we say here, at least. ...Read more
Probably: The best response is to meet with your prescribing physician and discuss this in detail. In my practice, with my patients, I slowly taper them down on the zoloft (sertraline) about 50mgs weekly, and slowly start them on Brintellix, usually mgs daily for one week, then 10mgs for two weeks, then up to 20mgs daily. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Tapering: The key is to taper and not stop "cold turkey" ... You probably received different advice on this, as it's not a hard and fast science as some of the other aspects of medical practice. Generally, the goal is to reduce the dose 25% over 4 weeks ... But this can be slowed down or accelerated if need be depending on how you respond. Hope that helps & good luck! ...Read more
Possibly: It could be difficult because stopping Cymbalta (duloxetine) can lead to the withdrawal syndrome that some patients experience. It is accompanied by severe migraine headaches and electric current sensations over the the top of the head and the neck and just because sertraline is being started does not necessarily prevent it. Talk to your doctor for more details regarding the transition to zoloft! ...Read more

Otherwise, to taper, decrease to 25 mg daily for two weeks and then stop. You could start to notice a return of depression or anxiety with reducing the dose or stopping it. In that case, just restart it at 50 mg daily. Good luck! ...Read more

Taper off slowly: My best advice for you is to check with your doctor because he or she knows your condition. Best. But you should be able to taper your med to 50 mg a day for 2 weeks, then take every other day for 2 more weeks to see if you are ready to get off med. Since there is no dependency with zoloft (sertraline). Again chectk with your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
