Study your problem: The BEST way to solve your problem is to know exactly WHY you suffer from insomnia and address those reasons instead of just giving you medicine which eventually is not going to work AT ALL. Study your problem 1st, discover the cause, attack the cause, cure the problem. You weren't born an insomniac. No reason to think you were. Want to meet online? Www. Healthtap. I take trazodone for sleep make me sleep in 10 min but I don't sleep more then 5h do u think elavil (amitriptyline) make me sleep fast as trazodone and sleep longer?
Trazodone doesn't: Usually act this way. It typically takes longer to act, and puts people out longer, with a longer hang over the next morning than Elavil (amitriptyline) or other sleep aids. Elavil (amitriptyline) is another antidepressant in this class, but has a bad reputation for side effects, mostly weight gain (not so for Trazodone). Check with your MD for dosages and also for alternative sleepers... Read more

Does trazodone take awhile to start working as a sleeping med. I have taken it for 3 nights 50mg and I have barely slept. Also citalopram 20mg?
Trazoodone: Works right away, but the dose needs to be adjusted into the dosage range that is correct for you. When I prescribe trazodone I give a specific range for the patient to take. I can never predict whether they will respond in the low medium or high dose. By giving them the range where they take enough so that they're sleeping but not so much that they are feeling hung over, I generally get good results. Please contact your prescribing physician and discuss the dose that may be more beneficial for you. Read more

Bipolar Disorder: I am in full agreement with sleep hygiene suggestions -- and am also concerned because your patient information lists "bipolar disorder." sleep problems can warn of a hypomanic or manic episode developing -- and if you have more depression too, it warrants seeing your psychiatrist for a thorough re-check. To me, that needs to come first before any new medications. Be well. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I take 1mg of Xanax (alprazolam) and 100mg of trazodone at bedtime to help me sleep. Can I safely drive a car the next day?
It depends: Both medications can cause some grogginess the next morning. Together that make grogginess worse. In some people it may be disabling and dangerous. In others it may cause no grogginess at all. Use your judgment and take it under close supervision of a md. The dosage may need to be adjusted to optimum level. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can I take 150 mg trazodone with halcion (triazolam)? To help with sleep initiation and sleep onset problems are is this too sedating?
Depends: How long have you been on Halcion (triazolam) or trazodone. This determines the amount of sedation you will suffer. Halcion (triazolam) is okay for short term use, but should not be used for more than a few weeks, because it is addictive and tolerance and rebound insomnia can develop. Trazodone should be only given at dose prescribed by physician, with any increase in dose determined by the doc giving it. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
