Low TSH = trouble: A TSH of 0.03 is quite low, meaning that the pituitary is sensing that the t4/t3 levels are too high for you, even if "normal". Too much thyroid hormone can lead to weight gain due to increased appetite, lower impulse control, and feeling too tired to exercise. It can also lead to loss of muscle tissue, and a decrease in metabolism. Work with your doc to get the TSH up around 1 for best results. ...Read more

If my T3 (liothyronine) is normal does that mean my free T3 (liothyronine) & reverse T3 (liothyronine) are ok too? My TSH has been my prob it's 1.7 now but weight loss still hard any tips?

Thyroid lookin' good: Hi. You have normal thyroid function with a normal TSH (1.7 is normal) and normal T3 (liothyronine), (liothyronine) even without seeing a free T4. Free T3 (liothyronine) is not necessary. Are you hypothyroid on l-thyroxine replacement? If so, it's perfect at this dose. Bear in mind that most weight gain is due to unhealthy lifestyle, NOT thyroid disease. If your thyroid function is normal (and yours IS), then other factors are at work. ...Read more

TSH: Your borderline high TSH could signify early hypothyroidism. Your other thyroid parameters are normal. I would not expect you to have any signs or symptoms of an underactive thyroid such as weight gain, fatigue and cold intolerance. At this time I would merely recheck your thyroid parameters in 3-6 months. ...Read more

I'm taking 100mgs of levothyroxine per day. My levels are normal now but I still can't lose weight. My doc won't give me t3 (liothyronine). Can I take kelp also?

No kelp: The most common cause of hypothyroidism in developed countries is hashimotos thyroiditis. Taking iodine, as in kelp, makes this worse. There is a small percentage of people with hypothyroidism that feel better on T3 (liothyronine) (due to decreased T4 to T3 (liothyronine) conversion in the brain, not elsewhere). Taking T3 (liothyronine) will not help you lose weight any better. You need to eat less and exercise to lose weight. ...Read more

Facing problem hair lose & weight gain. Have done thyroid test and result is t3-99.22, t4-3.98, TSH-20.21. What medicine I should take & for how long?

Thyroid: Those thyroid numbers do not make sense to me. The TSH is high and usually the T3 (liothyronine) and T4 are low causing the TSH to work hard to get your thyroid working properly.

Call your doctor to see if those numbers are correct. If he says yes ask for a referral to an Endocrinologist. ...Read more

My total T3 (liothyronine) level is 76, which can indicate hypo, yet my dr. Says it is normal. I am having a very hard time losing weight - shld I see an endo?

Low t3 (liothyronine) level: Low T3 (liothyronine) by itself is not diagnostic of hypothyroidism
you need to have a complete thyroid profile, which includes tsh, free T4 and t3
t3 level is not that helpful in diagnosing hypothyroidism by itself
if you want to have peace of mind by all means see an endo for second opinion. ...Read more

What could possibly prevent me from losing weight, im 34 f, on Synthroid (thyroxine) 137mcg, cytome 12.5mcg, metform 1000, phenter, free t4/t3 upper range, TSH low?

Eating too: Much and not exercising enough. If you're on cytomel, (liothyronine) you should consider stopping it as it can be dangerous and can't be checked by the routine thyroid tests. That's probably why your TSH is too low. The T3 test doesn't accurately measure Cytomel (liothyronine) dose. ...Read more

Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) effect on weight loss?

Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) effect on weight loss?

Ideally, none: Thyroid hormone in any form is not a weight loss product. Many people, especially those with weight problems to begin with, find that taking too much thyroid hormone can lead to weight gain just as easily as taking too little thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone should be adjusted to match what the body would make if the thyroid were working normally., and should be weight-neutral. ...Read more

Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) and weight loss common?

We no longer: Use thyroid hormones to augment weight loss. It can have serious complications like irregular heart rhythms. In reality, we use thyroid hormones like Liotrix to replacement someone's levels to normal. Hypothyroidism can lead to weight gain and restoring levels to normal (thyroid wise) can help some element of weight loss. In reality, it doesn't usually lead to significant weight loss. ...Read more

Is weight loss using cytomel (liothyronine) for a low thyroid normal?

No: You may be overdosed on cytomel (liothyronine). But also if your weight gain was previously due to underactive thyroid, and the weight loss on Cytomel (liothyronine) was a return to 'normal' weight, then it is not a problem.
I prefer sustained release T3 over cytomel (liothyronine), or Armour Thyroid with T3 sr. ...Read more
