Yes: Chances are you already have the virus that causes genital warts, human papillomavirus, hpv, mostly types 6 and 11. You have a 70% chance of infection with this virus by one unprotected sex with an infected individual via direct skin-to-skin contact. Only 1-5% infected will develop genital warts.

What kind of medican do you take for gential warts in women and for how long?

No pills..: There are topical medications you can apply, on a scheduled basis (2-3x/week) for up to 16 wks etc...These are prescriptions. They can also be treated in the office by your doc/dermatologists. The current cervical cancer vaccines may help reduce the incidence of gential warts significantly. Check with your doc.. Good luck.

Many of us do . . .: Since you appear to live in/around Hamilton, OH, search this website for Family Docs, Internists or Dermatologists in same local vicinity and ask them specifically (look at their insurance info). Warts often appear to multiply despite freezing b/c one isn't aggressive enough in freezing normal appearing periphery loaded w/infected cells. So we free large circumference around visible wart.

Depends: I have seen warts that have taken years to grow into a large lesion and I have seen some that have developed in weeks. The good thing is that their average lifespan is about 1 and 1/2 years!

No: Tagamet (cimetidine) has been used with some positive benefits for difficult warts on the foot. I have not heard of using zantac (ranitidine) in this manner.

2 to 40 weeks: Seriously, it can clear them up right away, or seem to take forever. If you scrape the wart down daily, and it's not too big, compound w can work well. You just have to help things along with scraping.

Maybe: Anal warts are caused by 2 of the 4 strains in the Gardasil vaccine.If you have never been exposed to the other strains, those associated with cervical cancer, it may be a benefit. However, as you age and the number of partners increase, the chances for prior exposure increase and likely benefit drops.This is something only you will know. Most insurers do not cover its significant cost after 26.
