How To Strengthen The Abdominal Muscles After An Inguinal Hernia Operation
I had an inguinal hernia repair surgery last year, what exercises can I do to tone my obliques and abs?
1SizeDOESNOT Fit All: The goal of any operation is to get people back to their baseline activity (and most people can!).However, activity restrictions may vary quite a bit from patient-to-patient, depending on the size and type of hernia, the nature of the repair, and the patient's health. Abdominal exercises will stress the repair, but the ability of your body to tolerate this stress is best answered by your surgeon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It is a body tissue that has the ability to contract. It shortens and generates force. It relaxes and returns to its original length. Muscles move joints, stabilize the body, move air and food through the organs, act as valves for bladder, bowel and other organs. They control movement of the eyes. They help us express ourselves by changing the shape of our ...Read more
Bulge in Groin: All inguinal hernias begin as small holes in the groin, usually evident as a subtle bulge that, in time, can enlarge and extend into the scrotal sac. Of course, neglect and time can lead to some very large hernias, but, in my experience, they usually extend down into the scrotal sac rather than lead to protrusions of the entire lower abdomen. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

A: A bulge in your abdominal wall that comes out when you cough or sit up and then goes back down when you lay down sounds very concerning for a hernia. You need to see a general surgeon and have them look at it and see what they think. The ultrasound is ok if you've already been scheduled, but it isn't always going to be accurate in diagnosing a hernia. Even if the u/s comes back saying that a hernia isn't seen, it doesn't mean you don't have one. Hernias are one of the most common conditions that a surgeon sees and most people still think that a physical exam done by a surgeon is the best way to diagnose whether or not you have a hernia. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can excessive coughing/sneezing the days immediately following lapro inguinal hernia repair mess up the results? Severe pain in right lower abdomen.
Rare: It would be rare to have that happen especially with a laparoscopic approach where the increased abdominal pressure with coughing and sneezing presses the mesh against the defect. Probably just some irritation and strain in the operative area due to the coughing and sneezing. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

In an operation for appendicitis, is the incision made in the groin? Does it increase the chances of developing an inguinal hernia?
No risk: There is not a groin incision made for operation to take out the appendix. For an open technique an incision is made in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen, but well above the groin. For laparoscopic technique, there are usually three incisions, one at the belly button, one above the pubic bone, and one in the left lower quadrant of the abdomen, all of which are away from the groin. Hope this helps! ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
STRANGULATION!!!: The only absolute indication for hernia surgery is when intestine gets stuck within the hernia and cannot be reduced. This requires emergency surgery to check if the blood supply to the intestine has been cut-off; sometimes we have to remove the involved intestine. Obviously, it is best to have a hernia repaired before this happens, but it is not always predictable. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
