How To Stop Gas When Sleeping
I have woken up with severe stomach cramps and gas each night and morning for a while now, what could be causing this and how do I make it stop? Its ruining my sleep. Thank you.
Take metamucil 1 tablespoon with a full glass of water at dinner time.
Stop eating all processed foods like cereals, crackers, bread, chips etc. These get digested very quickly and the bacterial use the sugars for food with the byproduct of gas. Stop carbonated beverages. If that fails see your internal medicine specialist. ...Read more

When I sleep on my left side I find I get really bad gas on my right side. When I turn, I can pass it. Why?
Easy answer!: Think of a glass of soda--fizz rises to the top, right? This happens with air in your gut. As you see from colon anatomy, there is a left (descending) & right (ascending) part of the colon. Turning onto your left side allows right colon to fill with air (the "bad gas" you're experiencing); turning onto your right side moves gas to left colon which permits easy passage of it thru the rectum nearby. ...Read more

My 6week old is having v smelly runny poos v smelly gas and has been quite unsettled the last few days, not sleeping well? Could this be his formula?
Possibly: If you have been using the same formula since baby was born and are mixing it the same way, it's unlikely it's his formula. However, if something has changed, from formula type to the water you use to whether you use powder vs ready-to-feed, it could affect him. As likely, though, is that he may have a little stomach bug. If vomits, use a feeding of pedialyte, but if persists, call your peddoc! ...Read more
My stomach grumbles all the time especially when I'm in class and when I lay down to sleep at night. One reason for this may be because I feel very ga?
Sorry to hear you are feeling uncomfortable. I hope I am interpreting your usage of the word "grumbling" correctly, but it is a normal thing to feel and merely indicates that your intestines are contracting or moving — as they should. If you are having "gas", there are ways to change your eating habits to minimize it. Here is an article for more info.

I am super afraid of needles and I have to have an iv to put me to sleep for surgery. What can I expect can they give me laughing gas while they do it?
Emla (lidocaine and prilocaine) & clear cover: ~1 prior to planned IV likely=better option; greatly reduces local skin sensation; primary basis of discomfort. However, will need to plan & persistently request/insist on this in advance else rarely done or Emla (lidocaine and prilocaine) on hand plus must be applied to planned IV location & kept in position for about an hour prior using a clear cover; Opsite or clear plastic like food wrap. Getting laughing gas for dental procedure and I am scared about the gas, will it put me right to sleep or make me feel high I don't like feeling spaced?
See below: Nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation is a safe and effective technique when administered by trained personnel on carefully selected patients. It has both analgesia/anxiolysis effects (the gas works by elimination of pain and anxiety in a conscious patient). Nitrous oxide is absorbed rapidly, allowing for both rapid onset and recovery (about 2-3 minutes). ...Read more
My 6 month old sleeps 1-3 hours and wakes up crying. I have to hold her upright to sleep. We tried gas drops, gripe water, now chamomille tea. Now what?
Check her ears: "Jack-in-the-box" syndrome is often seen in kids w/ ear infection or ear pain. After being down for 90min, they pop up screaming. Then ear pressure is reduced & they return to sleep only to repeat the cycle all night or w/each nap. Reflux is certainly also possible for the same reason. Pressure in the head and stomach build when lying flat. Check in with your pediatrician. ...Read more
I want to know what is the difference between being put to sleep and laughing gas during a dental procedure?
Laughing gas: Great question! Laughing gas is nitrous oxide which has a good safety profile at the concentrations used in dental offices. This means you are sedated, you will continue to breath, arouse to verbal stimulus, but generally be plenty relaxed for your procedure. General anesthesia is usually a combination of anesthetics which renders you unarousable and commonly a need to assist with breathing. ...Read more

In the week leading up to my period, I sleep less soundly, feel vry tired & have digestive issues (gas, bloat, etc.) Why? Anything I can do to fix?

My LO is 4 weeks old and she is grunting and straining all night and all day. When I put her to sleep she is fine for one hour but after that she starts grunting and straining. I tried giving her gas drops and gripe water but I guess this helped only for
May be her normal: Infants often make odd sounds and seem to strain in the usual course of their day. If she is feeding, sleeping, stooling and growing okay I would not assume she is in pain. If the process bothers you enough, have her doc examine her to see if there are any issues to treat, if not, let her be. ...Read more
