How To Stop Burning In Throat From Acid Reflux
I've had GIRD for years & recent diag. W/ Barretts. I just awoke w/ terrific acid reflux burning in throat, red blood in spit.& burning in rt chest.?
See your doctor.: It is not normal to have blood in your saliva or to have the new onset of right-sided chest pain despite presumed treatment for your chronic Gerd. Because of the acute change in symptoms, I would see your doctor or a gastroenterologist as soon as you can. I would see them soon, but in the meantime I would add in in chewable antacids such as Tums (calcium carbonate). Good luck. ...Read more

Maybe, but...: Could also be some other cause for the symptoms. One's doctor can check. Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). ...Read more

Sometimes elevating the head of the bed by propping up the front legs with blocks can help. Anti acids like Mylanta can provide some relief as can over the counter medications like Nexium (esomeprazole) and Prilosec. If the symptoms persist, see your doctor. ...Read more

No: Acid reflux is physiologic. In other words, it's normal. However, it becomes pathologic when it bothers you. Fermented food doesn't cause acid reflux any more than non-fermented food. However, "bad" acid reflux allows acid to get high enough back up esophagus to cause sore throat. Antacids (calcium carbonate), H2 blockers & proton pump inhibitors help. Is a sore throat common if you have mild or silent acid reflux? Or is it likely a cause of something else? Thank you
I do not have acid reflux, do not have a sore throat, and I am not sick. So what would cause you throat to feel like it wants to close?
"Silent reflux": You don't have to have heartburn or the sense of stuff coming up to have "reflux". Most people with reflux don't have heartburn. The only symptom may be hoarseness, asthma, swallowing difficulty or the feeling like your throat will close.
