Strengthening: Using a resistance band around your forefoot, hold the ends of the band with your hand and gently push your ankle down as far as you can and then back to the starting position. Pain: Twisting ones’ ankle can lead to a sprained ankle. Often times, this may result in ligamentous injuries which may lead to ankle swelling, pain, and possibly instability. An x-ray of the foot and ankle will be able to assist in differentiating a sprain form a fracture. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment. Read more

RICE: Unfortunately, only time will heal a sprain. Simple things like rest, ice packs, compression wraps and elevation are helpful in the immediate setting. If this does not help, it may be helpful to see a podiatrist or foot and ankle orthopedist who can get xrays to ensure there are no breaks and properly immobilize you in an ankle brace or boot.
