How To Shrink Swollen Nasal Passages
Tips on how to use a nasal steroid correctly so it can help shrink my nasal turbinates so head pressure can leave?
Are you pregnant?: Oral steroids are often far more effective in reducing size of most polyps quickly, but there are relative safety concerns with pregnancy (listed here as a condition) that have to be considered case by case. Other meds like Singulair (montelukast) can be helpful in situations. Often, use of an inhaler with rubber nipple attached (nasally) more effective than typical nose spray. ENT wants to shorten uvula, remove enormous tonsils and reconstruct very narrow nasal passages because I can't breathe well thru mouth or nose. Help?
Need something: Looks like you need to do something to relieve your symptoms. Surgery is generally recommended if medical treatment has become ineffective. My rule of thumb for surgery is to let your PMD help you make the decision if you need to be under the knife. They may be willing or aware of trying new medical treatments first. Can post nasal drip cause sore throat with swollen lymph nodes? What can I do to get the swollen down?
Strep vs. cold: The post nasal drip probably didn't cause the sore throat, but all these symptoms are probably attributable to a cold at best, strep throat at worst. My nose gets really dry; the passages appear to be red and swollen. What can I do to remedy this? I've tried nose sprays; they make things worse.
Saline nose spray: Dry nasal passages can be due to dry ambient air in the home (get humidifier), meds (even non prescription, check with doc), dehydration (stay well hydrated). Can try nasal saline sprays (watch out for neti pots, some cases of fatal fungal infections-must be very clean). Avoid otc decongestant sprays (have rebound effect, habit forming, cause other problems). No relief: see md. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
