How To Run An 8 Minute Mile
I have been getting heart palps while running. Usually they happen when i run under an 8 minute mile. I had holter, was normal. Should i be worried?
Good for you: If your holter is fine, and the palpitations do not cause bad chest pain or shortness of breath or you have more than 5 in a minute, stop worrying. If you use caffeine, try cutting down. Trusting you're cocaine-free ; no sign of real v-tach was on the monitor. I'm just glad you're running; keep it up. ...Read more
Is it healthier to run 4 days a week for 16 minutes at at 8:30 mile pace, or 2 days a week for 30 minutes at a 9:30 pace?
If i'm able to workout (decent 8 mile run yesterday) does that indicate that i'm probably not experiencing heart attack symptoms today?
Hard to say: While significant heart disease is unusual in young fit people, there is always possibility of having some underlying cardiac condition that has gone undetected and has been asymptomatic. So i would never ignore symptoms such as chest pain/tightness, palpitations, shortness of breath etc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I run no more than 20 miles a week. I have been diagnosed with anemia (12.8 hgb). Is this cuould be associated to "runners anemia"?
There are many...: Causes of anemia, and from this limited info it's hard to give specific advice or guidance. I would say that your anemia is mild (normal hct for a man your age is ~45%) and doesn't seem to be impactful on your physical activity. This may even be a normal HGB for you. More info, and trends over time would be helpful. Generally, anemia either reflects inadequate production or exacerbated rbc loss. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Have ctd.Can run 6-8 miles painfree & feel awesome but get excruciating sharp pains down legs overnight, am, or if i sit too long. Typical with ctd?
If I knew CTD: If by ctd you mean connective tissue disease you haven't given us much information--there are a lot of ctds with lots of different symptoms. From your age, i'd bet lupus, sle, which can affect muscles and everything else. Don't stop running, just stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. ...Read more
I have a stitch just near my rib cage whenever I walk. I am a runner and it came on after an 8 mile run last week and won't go away. Any ideas?
Rib musculoskeletal.: Pain. You may have a stress fracture, or an injury to on or more of the intercostal muscles or even a costochondral cartilage injury or inflammation. The easiest way to find out is to have a physical exam and a chest film. See you regular doctor. This can be important to get to the bottom of so that you do not injure yourself further. I actually dissent: Having run for forty years, i believe that running does not have to cause injury if there is no intenal pathology. I would start slow with a walk/ run combo. I would then gradually increase to 20-30 minutes running 3-5 times per week i think the duration or distance covered is more important than the speed. Oviously the speed will naturally increase with a training effect. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
