Can I safely use diluted hydrogen peroxide as mouthwash indefinitely? My dentist recommended it to me for chronic halitosis & oral thrush.

Can I safely use diluted hydrogen peroxide as mouthwash indefinitely? My dentist recommended it to me for chronic halitosis & oral thrush.

Halitosis: Indefinitely is a long time, and the H2O2 may not be treating the cause. Bad breath can be caused by many different factors, including sinus infections, periodontal problems, smoking, cavities, acid reflux, and your diet. Address all of these possibilities with your dentist and physician, and I'm confident that your problem will at least be minimized, and hopefully eradicated. Read more

Oral Thrush (Definition)

Oral thrush or oral candidiasis is a yeast infection of the mouth. White plaques are present on the inner side of cheeks of the mouth. The tongue may also have a white coat. Treatment is by antifungal liquid, tablets or troches. Thrush can occur when the normal flora of the mouth is disturbed such as during antibiotics, oral ...Read more

Vaginal thrush= I know doucheing is a big no no but u heard a hydrogen peroxide douche will cure thrush?

Vaginal thrush= I know doucheing is a big no no but u heard a hydrogen peroxide douche will cure thrush?

Douching with H2O2: I would strongly recommend against experiments with h2o2. The reports you are reading are not substantiated and may represent personal experiences of certain individuals for the problems that are not clinically confirmed often. I would rather use more conventional anti-yeast treatments such as Diflucan (fluconazole) or vaginal cream that are proven to work. Read more

Is scraping off the yeast/bacteria a possible treatment for oral thrush?

Is scraping off the yeast/bacteria a possible treatment for oral thrush?

No: Thrush is not a bacterial infection. It is a fungal infection. Scraping it off will leave a raw bleeding surface which is one way to diagnose Candida Albicans from other white lesions. Scraping it off will not eliminate the infection. You need to take the appropriate medication. Read more

I am on dose 2 of macrobid for UTI &making my oral thrush worse. I am waiting to see ID for thrush treatment but appt is 1 mth - do I stop macrobid?

Maybe: If your urinary tract symptoms are still present, then you need to continue the macrobid. However, macrobid rarely causes thrush. If you truly have thrush, there may be another cause. You should see your PCP or try to move your appointment up or see a different ID doctor. Read more

I took bacterial vaginosis treatment by mouth two weeks ago, but I got oral thrush from it, and I think my BV has come back after having sex?!

I took bacterial vaginosis treatment by mouth two weeks ago, but I got oral thrush from it, and I think my BV has come back after having sex?!

Recurrent BV: Recurrent BV is a common problem, and unfortunately the most effective treatments (usually metronidazole by mouth) can trigger yeast infections. BV isn't usually an STD in the usual sex, except in lesbian partners. Still, even with male partners, it's a good idea to either avoid sex or use condoms consistently (even with regular partners) for several weeks. For expert advice see an NHS GUM clinic. Read more

Is it safe to use hydrogen peroxide for gingivitis treatment?

Is it safe to use hydrogen peroxide for gingivitis treatment?

Yes but unecessary: Hydrogen peroxide treatment was made popular by paul keyes in the 1980's in treatment of gum disease. It is only effective in gingivitis but not periodontitis, as proven by the american academy of periodontology. However, with good oral hygiene of brushing and flossing and a regular periodic cleaning at your dentist/hygienist, gingivitis should be easily controlled. Read more

Can hydrogen peroxide help in the treatment of cancer?

Can hydrogen peroxide help in the treatment of cancer?

Very little data...: Taking a quick look at the medical literature, I found a couple of studies performed in japan where the authors injected unresectable tumors with hydrogen peroxide and then irradiated them, with the idea that the hydrogen peroxide would make the tumor more sensitive to radiation therapy. They demonstrated safety of the technique, but whether it helped or not was unclear. Read more

Is hydrogen peroxide an alternative for cancer treatment?

Is hydrogen peroxide an alternative for cancer treatment?

No: This is a vicious scam. Despite all the pretty "natural healing" and dark "conspiracy" talk, it's worthless. Neglect mainstream treatment and you'll pay for your mistake with your life. Use this as a supplement and you've paid your good money to a charlatan. If you're promised a cure and it failed, the charlatan will blame you. ("You ate GMO food.") Be savvy. Read more

Is hydrogen peroxide a good treatment for facial acne?

Is hydrogen peroxide a good treatment for facial acne?

No: Get something that actually works -- a cheap rx. I start folks on topical clindamycin, with a retinoic acid derivative if there are lots of blackheads, benzoyl peroxide if not. The cost should be almost nothing. More extensive disease is usually manageable by oral antibiotics, and dermatologists have the big guns. This is the 21st century and nobody needs unwanted acne. Nose still split and sore. Treated with hydrogen peroxide and vacate in which cleared it up for only a few days. That treatment won't work any more.

Vestibulitis: It depends where your nose is sore, but if it is around the nostrils, you can get a low grade infection in the nostril entrance which causes redness, pain, splitting of the nasal skin, crusting and it can be stubborn. It often requires a topical antibiotic and sometimes oral antibiotic. The hydrogen peroxide may be too irritating and drying. Should see a doctor. Read more
