How To Relieve Pain From Bruised Ribs

How long does pain from bruised ribs last its been 2 weeks for me and still have some mild pain. X ray showed no fractures. I'm 70 yrs. Old.
3 to 4 weeks: It usually takes 3, 4 even 6 weeks in some cases.
Natural timing: With injury to our tissues, inflammation (red, hot, swelling, tenderness) occurs. There is leakage of blood from damaged capillaries and veins which collects under the skin and causes the purple blue coloring we call a bruise. Over time, damaged tissues heal and blood collections are reabsorbed. Protect the area to promote fastest healing. Motrin/advil will help.
See below: Usually bruised ribs will feel sore at the site of the bruise. Other symptoms might be difficulty with breathing because the ribs move when we breath. When ribs are actually broken there is a remote chance that a broken piece can puncture the lung underneath it which would cause severe shortness of breath.
NSAIDS: Ibuprofen, the generic for Motrin, or naproxen, the generic for Aleve, are both good options. Bruised ribs can take awhile to heal and can hurt just as much as a fracture. Remember to take regular deep breaths when you have bruised or fractured ribs so that you don't develop lung infections.See 1 more doctor answer
Pain: Pain/discomfort which may be increased with respirations.
Tylenol/NSAIDs: Regular over the counter pain meds can ease the pain. Alternating warmth and cool may help. Narcotics should not be required. If pain is severe confirm no fracture.
X-rays fine?: If you have been checked for any lung puncture and the ribs are just cracked, you should have been prescribed pain medication. A muscle relaxant can help in addition. A lidocaine patch could help (script). You can use your hand or a pillow as a splint when you need to move or take those deep breaths. Heating pad helps. Be sure to see a doc if you have any fever, cough, or shortness of breath.See 1 more doctor answer
My husband have severely bruised ribs not broken. What can he do for pain, and to help heal them? He's in a lot of pain!!!!!! Please help.
Very: Painful injury. NSAIDs will help with the pain and inflammation. But he may need something stronger to help him rest at night. Unfortunately this injury is hard to treat. Everything he does he will feel it in his ribs. Time will help best if all. Talk to your doctor about some treatment options
