For constipation caused by a hernia what is the Tx? How is relief provided? What foods can be eaten and avoided?

Hernia not the cause: Hernias don't cause constipation. If you have a hernia, and it's causing pain with bowel movements due to a large size, you should have it looked at soon by a general surgeon. You can find one interested in hernia disease at the Americas Hernia Society website.

Is it possible to feel a hiatal hernia "pop"back into place? Get severe cramping for days stretching helps little until "pop" feeling then temp relief.

Hiatal hernias are very common and are usually assymptomatic, although heartburn and sometimes regurgitation may occur. Sometimes very large hernias of the stomach into the chest cavity may cause pressure and discomfort deep in the chest. ...Read more

More info: This is common after successful laparoscopic hernia repair, especially if some of the herniated fat remained in the hernia sac after repair. I have a umbilical hernia and have been constipated for 3 days. I have been taking a stool softener but still no relief?

May need to see doc: Typically, an umbilical hernia that becomes painful, swollen, or discolored needs to be evaluated right away. Just constipation doesn't necessarily mean it's related to the hernia. But, the hernia can get trapped and blood supply can get cut off, leading to infection and gangrene, which is why this is such a big deal. That can be life threatening. Surgery may be needed to avoid these complications ...Read more
