I've been an opiate addict for six years. Quitting cold turkey scares me, but i don't want to be stuck on Suboxone forever. What's the best choice?

Suboxone: This is the proverbial rock and a hard place. Not a lot of options. If you can stick with it. If you have the time and the money and support that's the best. There is a cocktail of no opiate medicines that will help you through much of this including Clonidine and sedatives .Otherwise Suboxone is an excellent choice and it helps stabilize you and keep you from using again. ...Read more

Would it b dangerous to stop doing 210mg of Oxycodone HCL daily (been using for 4 mths) cold turkey for 15-20 hours then take suboxone at hr 15-20?

See a doctor: You should have medical supervision and not try to do this on your own. If you take the Suboxone too soon, it can precipitate withdrawal. Also, if you have never taken the Suboxone, you need to be monitored during induction. You should see a doctor with experience in managing opiate withdrawal and familiarity with Suboxone maintenance therapy. ...Read more

I've been wothdrawing from 8 pills of 30 mg of roxycodone per day gone 3 days cold turkey took a quar sliver subuxone last nite will that set me back?

Yes. definitely: that is not a lot of narcotic (I suspect it was 1/4 of 8 mg...2 mg buprenorphine equivalent). this is equivalent to 5 to 10 mg of percocet BUT
1) it is long acting. On the one hand it will give a more gradual tapering off and lower withdrawal symptoms, on the other hand it will lengthen the overall process by 1to 2 da.
2) it means you are still taking a drug. ...Read more

My friend has physical addiction to suboxine. He wants to go off of it cold turkey. How can he ease the withdrawals n never want it again?

Should not be taken: With Percocet and hydrocodome. Interesting that he views Suboxone as the problem. If it is prescription Suboxone he needs to come clean with the prescriber about the other drugs. If it is street bought, he should set up an appointment with a certified Suboxone prescriber who can guide him through the process and get him into appropriate other forms of treatment. ...Read more

Keep a good balance with your eating and exercise and sleep /wake cycle. Can try benign things like benadryl (diphenhydramine) or melatonin over the counter. I have been taking suboxone for 10 years. Jan,1,2016 I Take none. How much longer will I feel horrible, irritable? Is Vicodin a safer way to quit?

For a while: If you used Suboxone 8/2mg daily for 10 years it is nearly impossible to just quit it, You will go through significant withdraws for weeks. Suboxone treatment depend on your commitment and depends almost solely on you, Suboxone dose should be redused gradually over good period of time , somewhere from 6 months to several years.
Even if you are on 2 mgs daily its hard to just quit. ...Read more

I am having trouble quitting oxycodone/suboxone. How long are these withdrawal symptoms supposed to last?

I am having trouble quitting oxycodone/suboxone. How long are these withdrawal symptoms supposed to last?

Quiting Opiates: Suboxone is used to help with addiction to opiates like oxycodone. Maybe you need to get yourself on a maintenance dose of Suboxone which you can then slowly taper off over time. In my experience, patients often will need to stay on Suboxone for about half the amount of time they abused opiates. So, if a person took oxycodone for 4-5 years, they may need the Suboxone for a couple of years. ...Read more

Work with doctor: You need to work very carefully with your doctors -- your ob-gyn and your prescribing psychiatrist -- to manage your pregnancy and the medicines you're on. Although these medicines may result in some problems for your baby, going through active opiate or benzodiazepine withdrawal could be much worse. How long should I take Suboxone for?

Open ended: A general answer to the question, "how long should I stay on suboxone?" would not do justice to the uniqueness of this therapy. In the ideal world a few weeks or months and then stop & some do succeed. However, as long as potential for harm is higher from being on vs off, the on option is preferred. Everyone should be given a chance to get off, when they are ready to get off. ...Read more
