How To Prevent Scoliosis From Getting Worse
Is there a way to tell on your own if your scoliosis is getting worse or staying the same? Can we prevent it from getting worse? Pain=bad? Eats great.
Odd statement: It is not clear if you are asking about yourself or someone else. The changes in scoliosis is influenced by age, which you don't give. Change is monitored by exam and x-rays if needed. There is no self directed method to replace these reproducible methods. Significant changes can go unnoticed by most untrained and some trained personnel.See 1 more doctor answer
It depends: It depends in part on the size of your curve and whether or not you are still growing. If you are still growing, curves less than 30 degrees are usually just followed and curves 30-45 degrees are braced to try to prevent progression. If you are done with growth, curves less than 45 degrees usually don't progress, but greater than 45 do. Thank you for your question.See 1 more doctor answer

Can certain exercises prevent or treat scoliosis? Are there stretches or exercises that can be done to prevent or help correct scoliosis? .
I did a major scoliosis surgery before in age 30, 2 years ago. What should I do and what should I eat more in long run to prevent getting worst? Thank
Scoli correction: If you achieved a stable fusion, just keep your weight down, do not smoke and live a healthy, active lifestyle. Reduce sitting time behind a desk for long periods of time, and walk. That's typically best to keep you active and your bones strong. Good luck!
Is there anything to fix scoliosis like stretching. My daughter 15, she is wearing the vest at night but just to prevent from increasing, degree is 25?
Vest is best: The basic management is to prevent further drift toward higher curve with the brace. After her growth stops, the tendency to worsen stops. There are no stretches that would make a difference. If the curve gets too bad they can straighten it with surgery after growth stops. This requires placing stabilizing bars on either side in her spine. Get her to use the vest & you may avoid surgery.See 1 more doctor answer

Between/just above eyebrows, forehead and around eyes. Small risk of bruising and rarely eyelid ptosis. Very small risk of allergic reaction.Full benefit seen 5-10 dys, can last 3 mos. Type of spine curve: There are multiple reasons for scoliosis &one is known as a congenital type which is when there is a deformity of the bones (vertebra) of the spine that one is born with & leads to an early curvature of the spine. Some don't need surgery & others do. They tend to not respond to bracing & can be very progressive in terms of a rapidly worsening curve & may be associated with other medical issues.See 2 more doctor answers
Orthopedic follow up: Congenital scoliosis should be followed closely by an orthopedic doc that treats scoliosis. The issue is usually that one side of the spine grows faster than the other due to failure of one or more segments to separate or form. It progresses over time as the child grows.See 1 more doctor answer

I'v a 10 yrs. Old daughter who has an s shape congenital scoliosis more than 45*, there was no noticable progress & no pain. What are the options?
Early and often care: Although there has been no progression yet, with your daughter at age 10 and either early in puberty or not even entering puberty yet, now is the time to be very aggressive about monitoring for changes and intervening early. This is not a little 10 degree curve - she is already at 45, and you don't want much progression before you would get agressive with early therapies. See spine doctor often!See 1 more doctor answer
Not typically: Not typically. The two exception to that are if the curve has been allowed to progress to an exceptionally large degree that it effects lung or cardiac function, which is quite rare nowadays. Or two, if the patient has other associated conditions with the scoliosis such as congenital heart or kidney problems which can be seen in a small percentage of cases.See 1 more doctor answer
