How To Prevent Scoliosis From Getting Worse
Is there a way to tell on your own if your scoliosis is getting worse or staying the same? Can we prevent it from getting worse? Pain=bad? Eats great.
Odd statement: It is not clear if you are asking about yourself or someone else. The changes in scoliosis is influenced by age, which you don't give. Change is monitored by exam and x-rays if needed. There is no self directed method to replace these reproducible methods. Significant changes can go unnoticed by most untrained and some trained personnel. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It depends: It depends in part on the size of your curve and whether you are still growing. If you are still growing, curves less than 30 degrees are usually just followed and curves 30-45 degrees are braced to try to prevent progression. If you are done with growth, curves less than 45 degrees usually don't progress, but greater than 45 do. Thank you for your question. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can certain exercises prevent or treat scoliosis? Are there stretches or exercises that can be done to prevent or help correct scoliosis?
Is there anything to fix scoliosis like stretching. My daughter 15, she is wearing the vest at night but just to prevent from increasing, degree is 25?
Vest is best: The basic management is to prevent further drift toward higher curve with the brace. After her growth stops, the tendency to worsen stops. There are no stretches that would make a difference. If the curve gets too bad they can straighten it with surgery after growth stops. This requires placing stabilizing bars on either side in her spine. Get her to use the vest & you may avoid surgery. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I've a 10 yrs. Old daughter who has an s shape congenital scoliosis more than 45*, there was no noticable progress & no pain. What are the options?
Early and often care: Although there has been no progression yet, with your daughter at age 10 and either early in puberty or not even entering puberty yet, now is the time to be very aggressive about monitoring for changes and intervening early. This is not a little 10 degree curve — she is already at 45, and you don't want much progression before you would get agressive with early therapies. See spine doctor often! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
