Can you have surgery while taking Avastin (bevacizumab)?

Can you have surgery while taking Avastin (bevacizumab)?

Avoid it, if it is p: Avastin (bevacizumab) causes interference in wound healing. So it is best to stop Avastin (bevacizumab) if you need to undergo surgery. It takes 4 to 6 weeks for the Avastin (bevacizumab) effects to go away after the last dose used.. Then it is safer to do surgery. Your oncologist as well as your surgeon can/will guide you in this regard, if you have not already been told about it. ...Read more

My sister was diagnosed with atypical meningiomanow taking avastin (bevacizumab) what is her survival rate ?

My sister was diagnosed with atypical meningiomanow taking avastin (bevacizumab) what is her survival rate ?

Good: Meningiomas are usually benign tumors with excellent prognosis. Symptoms depends on the location of tumor. Atypical meningioma is more concerning and it is in a spectrum ( worse than benign but better than malignant meningioma). The idea is to see the rate of growth, slow it if possible. If progressing, surgery, radiosurgery, or traditional radiation or combination of above are possible options. ...Read more

Do you know are avastin (bevacizumab) and Xeloda the same?

Do you know are avastin (bevacizumab) and Xeloda the same?

Different: Xeloda is oral chemotherapy while Avastin (bevacizumab) is a monoclonal antibody targeting vascular growth factor. Bevacizumab (avastin) is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that blocks angiogenesis by inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor. It also helps with chemo by allowing entry into tumor microvascular structures while Xeloda helps to inhibit DNA synthesis ...Read more

Which is more effective: Avastin (bevacizumab) or Erbitux?

Which is more effective: Avastin (bevacizumab) or Erbitux?

Identical: Data on Bevacizumab or Erbitux in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer, patients who do not have a KRAS 12/13 gene mutation, have nearly identical survival rates. These identical results were seen after chemotherapy, where survival with chemo alone was about 5 months vs. 7-8 months using either bevacizumab (Avastin) or cetuximab (Erbitux). ...Read more

Can avastin (bevacizumab) cause an increase of tumor markers?

Can avastin (bevacizumab) cause an increase of tumor markers?

Bevasizumab or: Avastin (bevacizumab) vies with vascular endothelial growth factor. It's action interferes with development or growth of blood vessels needed by tumors. Causes incresed blood pressure and bleeding as leading toxicity. No obvious reason that it should influence tumor markers. ...Read more

What effect does avastin (bevacizumab) have on male fertility?

What effect does avastin (bevacizumab) have on male fertility?

Unsure: Avastin (bevacizumab) has shown to be deterimental to female reporuductive potential with up to 30-35% have serious complications (ovarian failure). To my knowledge there are no studies on men. Any chemotherapy has the potential risk of causing fertility issues in the future. You may want to consider freezing sperm with a sperm bank or your local reproductive endocrinologist. Also talk to your oncologist. ...Read more

I have a history of atypical meningiomas, 2 of 4 were surgically removed & radiated, being treated now with avastin (bevacizumab).Need feedbk on the effectiveness?

Malignant meningioma: Malignant meningiomas produce high levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (vegf)- this is what supports the use of avastin (bevacizumab). No clear data about the effectiveness of avastin (bevacizumab)-however a phase ii study on this topic is ongoing. At this time, the effectiveness is shown only on case reports as this one, published on clinical journal : http://annonc.Oxfordjournals.Org/content/21/12/2445.Full. D/w md. ...Read more

I need some information about the mechanism of avastin (bevacizumab) on the body..

I need some information about the mechanism of avastin (bevacizumab) on the body..

Stops angiogenesis : Avastin (bevacizumab), and was the first commercially available angiogenesis inhibitor. Its main action is the inhibition of the function of a natural protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (vegf) that stimulates new blood vessel formation. Because most malignant tumors are highly dependant on angiogenesis to obtain a blood supply and nutrients Avastin can stop or delay growth. ...Read more

What is the success of avastin (bevacizumab) for treating glioblastoma? Does it work?

Marginal: It is primarily being used to treat recurrent malignant gliomas . The latest results with its use as a frontline treatment for malignant glioma show no real benefit over the current conventional regimen using radiation therapy and chemotherapy with temodar (temozolomide). ...Read more
