How can I get my baby to sleep without swaddling him? Is it bad to keep swaddling him?

How can I get my baby to sleep without swaddling him? Is it bad to keep swaddling him?

Depends: Infant swaddling is a transitional measure that replicates the snug feeling of the womb & calms baby when they can't handle the random movement of arms & legs. That said, they didn't need to breath in the womb and without room for arms & legs to move they don't develop muscle tone.To tight is a problem for both. The goal is to gradually loosen the wrap & have it gone at a month. ...Read more

Comforting routine: Although babies may understand being tired, they don't understand the concept of sleep. They drift into sleep like adults in a boring lecture. Your tiredness routein should focus on settling baby down and excluding harsh distractions. How old do your baby gotta be to stop eating during the night?

After 3 months old: At each check-up, the doctor can confirm the baby is fine. Parents patiently wait 3 months before most babies sleep better at night. Until then, parents switch off at night for one feeding, so the husband can use a bottle for one of the feedings while the wife gets a chance to sleep a 4-hour stretch during the night. After 3 months of age, most babies can sleep about a 6-7 hour stretch at night. ...Read more

What is the longest to let a 6.5 week old baby cry. I am struggling to get her to go down for sleep. And want her to learn to self soothe.?

10-15 minutes: I am old school. For the first 4 months, don't let her cry for more than 10-15 minutes. After 4 months they have established eating and often sleep patterns and start solids. Then it is ok to let them cry a little longer to learn to self- soothe. The first few months, responding to their needs fosters positive things like feeling safe, confident, cared for. My infant is starting to spit up during feelings. Do I continue to feed him and how can I help prevent him spitting up?

Feedings and spittin: Hard answer without knowing your infant's age. But are you "burping" your baby after feedings. Babies take in alot of air using bottles and nipples - burping them will reduce the air bubble. Sometimes spitting up is due to formula issues - changing to a non cow's milk formula may help. Gaviscon drops may also help. If the spitting is getting worse - dicuss this with your doctor. ...Read more

Why do infants cluster feed during breastfeeding? How to get through it easily? It can be frustrating. Sometimes baby wants to eat every hour for 5 hr

A TestofYour Breasts: Well, if it's a baby boy, it needs no explanation. But overall, this is not a worrisome event. Probably means that the baby is taking in small amounts intermittently either due to low milk flow or small swallows or both. Best not to worry and use it as a time to "bond" with him (or her). Usually ends my 1-3 months. If it doesn't or if there are obvious problems feeding, check with your doctor ...Read more

Will letting my baby use a pacifier make it harder for her to nurse?

Will letting my baby use a pacifier make it harder for her to nurse?

Nipple Confusion?: The short answer, of course, is "maybe." babies have a reflexive need to suck, but the way they need to suck to nurse is different than how they can suck on a bottle or pacifier. In the first week or so of nursing, the different shape of a pacifier may make learning a good latch at the breast harder, but many babies do great with both. If she nurses well, it should not be a problem for her or you! ...Read more

My 4 month old baby gets histerical once I put his infant carrier in the car. He won't stop crying turning blue and shaking. What should I do ?

Keep him safe in car: At four months he is too young for a real temper tantrum. We have a month old infant who is gassy. We do our best to aggresively make him burp but within an hour after feed, he gets up crying from gas pain. Are there any other remedies?

Some possibilities: Babies swallow air- when they eat, suck or cry. During feedings, try to burp him in between every ounce, or between nursing on each side. Hold him upright (on your shoulder) for 15-20 minutes after feedings to help allow the air to rise up and escape, and not get trapped under the milk. Try a lactose free formula. Try simethicone (gas drops for infants). Check with your doctor if this continues. ...Read more
