Can Propranolol 20 plus Citalopram 20 lower diastolic blood pressure to 66? My BP is usually 66 and 11. Is it good? Is it because of MVP I have?

Can Propranolol 20 plus Citalopram 20 lower diastolic blood pressure to 66? My BP is usually 66 and 11. Is it good? Is it because of MVP I have?

Normal limits: Propranolol itself can lower blood pressure significantly. A diastolic pressure of 66 is still acceptable and would cause no problems. Mitral valve prolapse may cause disturbances in the heart rhythm but not the blood pressure as a rule. Read more

Blood Pressure (Definition)

Blood pressure is a measurement of the force placed on the blood vessels and is comprised of the "systolic" pressure (the top number on a blood pressure meter) which is the peak pressure when the heart is pumping, and the "diastolic" pressure (the bottom number on a blood pressure meter) which is the pressure during the resting phase ...Read more

How can I lower my systolic without lowering my diastolic blood pressure?

Difficult: Difficult as lowering systolic generally lowers diastolic as well. My question is why are you concerned about not lowering your diastolic bp. Read more

Is having a consistently lower than normal diastolic blood pressure a good or bad thing (i.e between 40-50 mmhg) if the systolic pressure is the normal range (i.e in the 90s mmhg)?

Is having a consistently lower than normal diastolic blood pressure a good or bad thing (i.e between 40-50 mmhg) if the systolic pressure is the normal range (i.e in the 90s mmhg)?

Prob normal for you: There are some red flags associated with a low diastolic blood pressure in older people (may mean arteries are stiffer, or taking too much of an anti--hypertensive drug (s), but in a young male such as yourself, it is likely normal. Especially since your systolic blood pressure, while normal, is on the low side, too. Unless you have symptoms such as dizziness/light-headedness, I would not worry:) Read more

Yes, all do: You have named three different anti hypertensive agents, each with a different mode of action, and all effective at lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Read more

What causes low diastolic blood pressure?

What causes low diastolic blood pressure?

How low?: If is two low, aortic valve regurgitation (leakage), could be the cause. A physical examination can help screen for that. Read more

What is meant by diastolic blood pressure?

What is meant by diastolic blood pressure?

Diastolic pressure: The diastolic blood pressure represents the lowest blood pressure that the vessels are subjected to during the circulation of the blood by the pumping action of the heart, and this occurs just before each heartbeat. The systolic blood pressure is the highest pressure in the blood vessels and this occurs immediately after each heart beat. Read more

How can I reduce my diastolic blood pressure?

How can I reduce my diastolic blood pressure?

Several things: High diastolic pressure is usually related to volume retention due to kidney disease or high blood count. So usually medication that are vaso-dilators or diuretic or other blood pressure medications. Smoking, diabetes, sleep apnea or snoring and obesity are among the factors that elevate blood pressure therefore controlling these factors can also reduce blood pressure. Read more

Is a diastolic blood pressure of 53 dangerously low?

Is a diastolic blood pressure of 53 dangerously low?

NOW BP MAYBE OK: Asymptomatic chronic low blood pressure is generally not a problem. However, some possible causes: low thyroid, low cortisol, heart disease, dehydration, blood loss, allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), infection (sepsis). You may need lab tests to check these possibilites. Read more

What are the main causes of low diastolic blood pressure?

What are the main causes of low diastolic blood pressure?

Not many: Not many and not that important. Most common reason would be aortic insufficiency (leaky aortic valve). Other than that, there are artifacts (errors) taking the blood pressure in someone with rigid arteries that will make diastolic BP artificially low. True diastolic low BP (not related to leaky valve) requires NO treatment Read more

Is it healthy to have diastolic blood pressure as low as 58?

Is it healthy to have diastolic blood pressure as low as 58?

Sure: A low diastolic is not bad, in and of itself. Mine is <50. What could be a problem is if it is usually >70 or 80, and then suddenly drops to 60, you don't have enough pressure during the resting phase of your heart beat to keep blood pressure or flow to the brain. Read more

What exactly is the significance of diastolic blood pressure?

What exactly is the significance of diastolic blood pressure?

Can be harmful: Diastolic pressure is the lowest pressure reached inside blood vessels, and occurs as the hear is relaxing between beats. Normal values are below 80. Diastolic BP above 90 (or systolic above 140) will increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney disease. It is definitely worth having BP checked regularly and treated if high. Read more
