I have been taking celexa (citalopram) for 10 yrs can I just stop taking it?

Not a good idea...: First of all, you should discuss this with your doctor. Then you need to know that the best way to go off any antidepressant is to slowly and gradually taper the dose, making sure to observe that your mood/anxiety remain stable. A reasonable way to taper would be to lower to 10mg for several weeks, if not more slowly ( a couple of months would be better), and then 5mg for awhile, then even 2.5... ...Read more

Ok, 1 more ?...Would there be any reason that u shouldn't should stop taking celexa (citalopram) suddenly one day after taking 4 10months?

Stopping celexa (citalopram): Whether you would have symptoms on suddenly stopping is most related to the dose you are taking. If you are taking the standard low dose, 10 mg, most people are able to stop abruptly without significant side effects. Some people take higher doses, 20-40 mg, and abrupt stopping may cause some jitteriness or feeling peculiar, but will pass. To avoid this, cut the dose in half for 7 days, then stop. ...Read more

Celexa (citalopram): There is nothing absolute about Celexa (citalopram) that would cause weight gain, it is just one of the things that occurred to some people in clinical trials. Do not stop them: Explain your concerns to your doctor. These medications should never be stopped without psychiatric supervision. Get into psychotherapy with cbt for your anxiety and depression.
