Why?: The wound will heal in its own time. You need to avoid getting it wet if at all possible for a few days, but then regular soap and water will be fine. Not sure why salt water would be any better, but probably unlikely to hurt either. ...Read more

You can get in the water even before then in most cases but it is recommended to not get "non sterile" water into eye due to potential risk of infection. If the ankle swelling is new and significant this can indicate problems that may need checked out before surgery, depends on if you have any health history. Yes and No: My yes answer is not standard of care because the formal/standard advice is nothing by mouth the morning of surgery because of concerns of aspiration etc. If the probiotics are dissolved in the water even safer..for I can't believe there would be problems even if a small amount aspirated. If wearing goggles & not in dirty water, likely 3 wks ok, but check with eyeMD regarding particular risks; if have any worsening pain, vision, flashing lights, curtain coming over vision, swollen eye, excessive tearing, see eyeMD as soon as possible. Varies: You would want to check with your surgeon. Most of the time you do need to limit your activities to some degree, particularly if you have a press fit hip in which bony ingrowth is needed to provide long term stability of the implant.
