Why?: The wound will heal in its own time. You need to avoid getting it wet if at all possible for a few days, but then regular soap and water will be fine. Not sure why salt water would be any better, but probably unlikely to hurt either. ...Read more

Post surgery care: After cataract surgery: most eyeMDs will allow pts to swim with eyes open under water 1 month after surgery. If wearing goggles & not in dirty water, likely 3 wks ok, but check with eyeMD regarding particular risks; if have any worsening pain, vision, flashing lights, curtain coming over vision, swollen eye, excessive tearing, see eyeMD as soon as possible. Sports after CE: After the first 5-7 days after cataract surgery, swimming is usually allowed (depending on your eyeMD's evaluation). You can get in the water even before then in most cases but it is recommended to not get "non sterile" water into eye due to potential risk of infection. Yes and No: My yes answer is not standard of care because the formal/standard advice is nothing by mouth the morning of surgery because of concerns of aspiration etc. If the probiotics are dissolved in the water even safer..for I can't believe there would be problems even if a small amount aspirated.
